“Trantawan Revisited”
Reviewed 16 October 2012

The number one item that this hotel has going for it is the friendliness of the staff. Always a smile and hello. After staying at this hotel six years ago, I decided to give it another try. The lobby is very nice, spacious with a business center, and nice dining area, free wifi is offered in the rooms. I was able to check-in at 10am in the morning which is a nice touch. Breakfast is included in some room rates. The room is outdated, the walls certainly need a good washing or a repainting would be better, they are somewhat dirty. The carpet is stained in many areas, I don't think a good cleaning would make them look any better, the carpet needs to be replaced. The back of the bathroom door had wood peeling from the bottom, the door needs to be replaced. The TV is an old small tube style, it needs to be replaced by a modern flat screen. TV channels offer a very poor selection. 16 in all, some with very poor reception. Satellite needs to be added with a much better selection of TV stations added. The furniture could use an update, the small table in the room had cigarette burns on it. I could smell the stale cigarette smoke that either is embeded in the rug, drapes, or that comes out of the air conditioner. Don't know if smoking is still allowed in some rooms or not. For someone that is looking for a hotel in the Silom area for the night life and for the fact that this hotel allows "joiners" free of charge into the rooms then this might be just what they are looking for. The hotel is not located near any of the great shopping malls or other venues. You will either have to take a taxi or the BTS skytrain which is about a 10 minute walk from the hotel. If you wish to stay in the Silom area you will find better hotels for the price paid.

I've stayed here a couple of times with my girlfriend, and if you want a calm, comfortable and good value place to stay you can't beat it. The rooms are large, not exactly the peak of modern design maybe, but clean and pleasant. The staff are very helpful - for example, when we arrived unexpectedly early at 4am from Chiang Mai (our sleeper train was cancelled and we had to get a bus back, which strangely is a lot quicker than the train), the duty manager let us have our room early and at no extra cost. A couple of reviewers have made veiled "not for us" references about the hotel's gay friendliness, and just in case any potential guests are concerned (does anyone worry nowadays??) it's not exactly obvious - it's just a nice, calm hotel with nice, calm guests. And I like the breakfast too.

I last stayed in this hotel 5 years ago, and very little has changed. This was my third time staying here.

The levels of customer service given by the staff are excellent. The location is also very good being right in the heart of Silom area.

Stayed in the court yard facing Surawong room and was very disappointed. The carpet had burns in it and the room felt badly in need of refurbishment.
There was also one full day and night without hot water, and the water that was available was brown and dirty looking. Not good when staying in a hot and humid climate.

The location and the great attitude of the staff are the only things that this hotel has going for it now. My room (on the 7th floor) was just too shabby for me, especially when there are so many other hotels in the same price range and location. Sadly, I have many great memories of this hotel but I will not be returning.

I recently stayed 13 mights at the Tarntawan Place Hotel. I was very pleased with the hotel, its location, and its room rate. My room was very large, with a king sized bed. Cleaning service was excellent. Room was fine, only suggestion I would have is to have the carpeting spot shampooed. Breakfast came with the room and was served by staff. You could have an omelette, or eggs any other way, pancakes, waffles, or Asian breakfast. Coffee was served, but would have been better if it had been self serve from the small buffet area. Buffet area consisted of juices, fruit, yogurt, breads, sliced meats and cheese, etc. It was not the huge buffet that most Asian hotels offer.
Service by all hotel employees was great, especially from the daytime security guard at the elevator. He was always smiling and joking.
The hotel was near everything (the night market, entertainment, restaurants, sky train, subway etc.) Perfect location.
There was limited free parking if you had a car, but who would want a car with the madness of driving and traffic in Bangkok.
If I return to Bangkok again, I will stay at the Tarntawan Place hotel again.
No swimming pool or fitness center, but there was one nearby that was available. I did not use it.

Room Tip: I booked through Booking.com and got a much lower rate than other sites. I paid about $60. per nigh...

This was our second stay since last summer.
A couple of staff recognized us by faces and that made us feel like coming home.

The hotel itself is pretty much run down and not too well kept. But nothing dirty about. We've stayed 4~5 stars in BKK, Chiang Mai and other cities until previous nights, so we know how things in a higher class hotels are but still, Tarntawan place is cozy and welcoming.
This is a good hotel to stay before the end our journey for a couple of nights.

I stayed at the dusit thani and other expensive hotels in Bangkok, and they could not match the Tarntawan truley professional yet personal, extremley helpful customer service.
The taxi driver we were recommended was our guide for 5 days and became a good friend. The room was modern and spacious, only down side was no pool.
The owner and his staff made me feel very welcome and helped me have the best Thailand holiday possible.
