This was not the first time staying but then over the many years when I have been to Bangkok, the only place I have ever stayed in was opposite Palazzo, the Emerald Hotel.
The primary motivational factor that made me come back every time is the price. And the fact that it is on Ratchadapisek Rd, which is one of the famous areas for good food, massages, drinking joints and fun all within walking distance. There are a few shopping arcades too nearby. Somboon Seafood Restaurant is one of the famous place to eat and it is only 5 mins walk away. There is an underground train station beside if you decide to go anywhere further. There is a convenience store just opposite and you can get most things there.
Despite it all, Palazzo Hotel is a reasonable hotel so just don't expect 5 star service in a Boutique Hotel. Despite the smaller reception area and bar, the rooms are reasonably sized and the decorations were quite nice. I thought their breakfast was pretty good but selection was quite limited. For us, most of our time was spent golfing, eating and drinking till late nights so a good nice room to sleep was something we look forward to and for that, I think Palazzo Hotel is still the better choiceMore
