Review of Hotel De Moc
4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 21 Aug 2011
Hotel De Moc is a clean and comfortable hotel, which offers an excellent buffet breakfast, and is in a perfect location for the historical side of the city. All major attractions are easy to reach either by foot or in a tuk tuk, and the free shuttle to the Khao San Road is a good little extra for those wishing to enjoy some night life, but stay in a quieter location. Having a pool is also a bonus in the heat. The hotel staff were lovely, they always had a smile, and they are very helpful (especially Meuk, Hatha and Wei), and the on site travel desk booked tickets for a show we wanted to see at no extra cost! All in all we had a great stay here and would come back again.

they have good cheap food and speak good english.

Arrived after a night bus ride in the early morning. Had to pay extra for early check-in and got a room with a wall directly in front of the balcony. It felt a bit like a bad joke. Supposedly no other rooms for three people were available. Why do they have such rooms at all? The toilet didn't flush, was fixed during the day though. The water pressure was extremely low so it was difficult to take a shower. The breakfast was bland with the exception of good coffee. So if you like a good cup of coffee with a horrible room and a terrible bathroom for a lot of money I would recommend this hotel. We left after one night of course.

We flew to Bangkok and stayed here first.
The hotel has a good airy lobby, and the reception staff are very friendly although English slightly limited. Our double room was a good size, although 2 singles put together, but apart from that was fine. Was all clean with Air Con and free wi-fi, although this was a bit slow and unreliable.
It has a very good size pool outside which was lovely, with a bar and restaurant (although we didn't buy anything). Breakfast was a buffet style and very good.
Location is about 10 mins walk to Kao San Road.
Overall we liked it and thought it good value for Bangkok.

This 3 star budget hotel was in a great location - only a short tuk-tuk (or taxi) ride to all the major sights like the Grand Palace, Wat Pho, Vimanek Palace, Khoa San Road and Chayo Phraya River. The customer service was excellent. The reception spoke ok english, but there were many employees that can comunicate in english. The rooms were basic, clean and quiet with firm mattresses (which seems to common in Thailand). The hotel itself was simple and could use an update, but was very clean and provided everything we needed. Internet was not free, however, there were computers available, nice swimming pool, good restaurant and a very helpful and polite travel agent on site. We definitely reccommend this hotel for budget travellers and would stay there again ourselves!

To be honest i don't know why people have written so many good reviews for this hotel, in my opinion this is just an OK hotel. This is a 3 star hotel with most o the facilities that a 3 star hotel should have.

The room is dark with insufficient light system, probably they want to give it an ancient look :D However, the room is big enough with a balcony with the facility to dry your clothes. Bathroom is clean, though there was a problem with the tap of the basin. Eery time i turned the tap on, water kept coming out in such a way that i got wet. They did not fix it even after complaining.

The location is so bad, there is no sky train station nearby, not many bus routes around. If you want to go to city, the only choice you have is taxi which will never go by meter. For example, if you want to go to MBK shopping mall or Siam centre, if you ask the taxi to go by meter (which is actually 70 to 75 baht), they will reuse to go by meter and ask you to give them minimum 200 baht .

I had to stay in this hotel because i was attending UN training and this hotel is just 10 minutes walking distance from United Nations building. You can choose this hotel only if you have to go to UN office everyday.

Their complimentary buffet breakfast doesn't have many options, still good i would say.
They have free internet, you can use it in your room if you have a laptop, but you have to ask for username and password everyday because it expires in 24 hours after first log on.

The rooms on 2nd, 3rd and 4th floor were of 1200 baht , they call it standard room; and rooms on 5th and 6th floor were of 1600 baht, they call it superior room. However, there is no difference in these two type of rooms, some of our colleagues chosen rooms on 5th and 6th floor and regretted later. By the way, they are going to increase the room rent soon, it will double without any reason!!!

Some people have written about their thai massage, i don't think their massage is good, rather you can get a very good and cheap thai massage outside such as in Wat Po and Wat Po has a branch in Sukumbhit area also.

Room tip: Ask or a room facing swimming pool area
