Lovely hotel, spoiled by traffic noise

Review of Hotel De Moc
3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 13 Sept 2012
I stayed here briefly during my visit to Thailand and I must say that this is a nice hotel, with friendly and attentive staff, good looking rooms and the first hotel I visited in Thailand with free WiFi that worked properly everywhere in the hotel.

Sadly, all of this was ruined by the insanely loud traffic noise in my room, which made it impossible to get any sort of sleep/rest in.

When we first arrived we were greeted at the taxi by the very friendly staff who then took our bags to our room. The room was very clean and spacious and our towels had been made into swans ( very nice touch). Breakfast was very good and had a lot of different choices and we also had an evening meal when we first arrived which was excellent. Would highly recommend this hotel as you can walk to the bustling Khaosan road and 40km from airport. Very good swimming pool and excellent Thai massage too!

Hotel De'Moc is located in the older area of Bangkok, not too far from attractions such as the Grand Palace. Three of us stayed there for our first three nights in Thailand. The room was fairly clean and the staff was pleasant. The only complaint about the room was that the (former) window was blocked up by bricks, however we didn't choose this hotel for the view, so that did not bother us too much. The breakfast is very nice however if you don't mind exploring around the hotel a little bit, you can find a nice meal for less. The free tuk tuk is convenient for getting around, however as with many other drivers in Bangkok, they will usually take you to locations/companies where they are receiving commission for taking you there. Overall a decent spot in a good location.

We have been coming to this place for 22 years, starting when its name was still Thai Hotel. The location is wonderful: you can get to the Grand Palace and Wat Pho by foot, or go to the Colonial Quarter by Chao Phraya River Express (the pier is at 500 m), or go to the Central World Plaza and Siam Shopping Complex by river taxi on the khlong San Sap. The wi-fi connection is good in the room, too, and the breakfast is excellent.

Room tip: Superior Rooms at 5th floor on the front are a very good choice.

We have just come back from a few days in this hotel and really loved it! I as a bit apprehensive after reading some reviews---but there was no need! This is a a genuinely nice hotel, at a good price in a great location. The swimming pool is an added bonus and we found the staff to be very pleasant at all times. Definitely would go back.

I stayed here at the beginning of an organised tour. It's a little distance from
Khao San road but there is a free tuktuk. The rooms were clean and the staff were helpful. There breakfast is the best I've seen in Asia.
