“The place to stay in BKK”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 February 2014

I stayed in this hotel for 4 nights mid-Feb 2014 and I really loved it.
Location is great; close to BTS skytrain and in the hub of Sukhumvit 33.
Staff is just awesome, friendly and always willing to help.
The manager, Franck, is a French guy very nice!
Hotel facilities are good. Large pool with plenty of cushions to relax on. A bar with great cocktails and lounge music will make you forget you're in a busy city!
Rooms are big and fully equiped (large flat screen tv, fridge, large and comfy bed)
The food is very yummy. Must be a good chef. I suggest you try the Sunday brunch; so much good food!
I had the opportunity to try the spa. You can have foot massage by the pool or other massages in the spa; just awesome experience.
Oean organises pool parties and good nightclub downstairs.
I have to say, Ocean Bangkok will suit better couples and friends than quiet families.
Also they provide free wifi!
I came many times in Bangkok, but that's the best hotel I stayed in at an affordable price.
To sum up, I can say it's an awesome hotel with friendly saff and very pleasant atmosphere.
Definitely good value for money.

Room Tip: I would suggest the pool view rooms

Ocean is definitely the place to stay if you are new to the city and looking for both a chill daytime place to relax and lively nightlife scene to meet people. We stayed over a weekend that included a stylish day-long poolside party with lounge music and kabobs, which transformed itself into a multi-level event at night. The cool thing about Ocean is that there are different types of places to hang out; either pool-side, in the white bar with more upbeat music, or their newest basement venue which hosts some pretty awesome DJs playing anything but the pop-crap that is found in the rest of Bangkok's clubs. The basement vibe is one for those not shy to dance, as it's high intensity and a lot of fun. The location of Ocean is right on the outside edge of a primary protest zone, with a number of quality restaurants in the area along with quick access to the skytrain. If you do stay at Ocean, be sure to get the Sunday brunch, which was hands down one of the best I had during my stay in Bangkok. Rooms are priced midrange and the beds big. I found the staff helpful when needed, but not overbearing like at some other hotels I've been to. Overall, I enjoyed my stay quite a bit, and will definitely stay there again on my next pass through Bangkok.

Room Tip: You will hear the music if facing the pool, but you should be out there enjoying yourself anyway, so...

The main joy of staying in Ocean are the great double size mattresses they have on their beds. After the rock hard beds in many Thai hotels this is a delight to sleep. The hotel is small, and the staff helpful, but service is generally slow and not very professional. Breakfast is something you need to linger over, as it takes ages to get, but quality is good.
The pool is nicely done, and good to catch up on a couple of hours of top-up tanning. There is a lively evening cocktail scene, with reasonably priced drinks.
However there is loud music played especially on weekends, which permeates the rooms facing the pool area, so it is not a place for an early sleep, unless you have had a couple of drinks for preparation.
Some good bars, restaurants are close by and a 24 hour grocery store across the road. It is a 5 min walk to the Skytrain.

Room Tip: Ask for a quieter room.

Positives:

- beautifully done-up ground floor with pool area, St Tropez style
- great branding
- great place to eat and party
- it does have the wow effect when you enter, magnified due to a completely different look&feel of the street
- i's say this place is ideal for anybody who comes to Bangkok to party - as a couple, but being single, I guess, you get the most of this place! Remember the pricing is more on the premium side so not really for backpackers on a budget

Negatives:

- rooms are very basic
- shower - terribly poor stream of water that doesn't get even luke warm, clogged outlet
- the place is now called "OCEAN—living stones" - this should be reflected all over media channels. it's weird commenting on Livingstone's Lodge if that doesn't exist anymore
- i feel the communication of what the place is and who it is ideal for needs to be communicated better. I personally found it very disappointing to see such basic rooms after seeing the photos of the pool. I also had no idea it is a party place in the first place and hotel second. The rooms seem like for backpackers whilst the dining and pool party is more premium. To me, this is very confused branding.

Positive/Negative:

- place is noisy in the evenings/nights since there is a party at the pool (having said this, if you party this is a big plus)
- staff is more like people who work at clubs/bars - very laid back with a bit of attitude (not bothered too much about clogged water pipes in the rooms but they are nice and cool people)

It's a lovely place and with a really nice pool area (all in white designed to be chilled out head kandi/ibiza style) it was an big room and all in all it was quite clean but that doesn't take away from the fact it's an old hotel that's been painted white. the drinks on the night time were very over priced but that may have been because they were having an opening party of some sort, we also booked it as the living stones lodge however finding it proved difficult as it was called something like ocean view when we got there

Room Tip: Our room was ok 109

could feel the fresh breeze since the first step i got into the hotel area, as if u were travelling in some costal city in the Mediterranean or the Caribbean Sea..

the outstanding of this hotel would be the outdoor bar area or the poolside bar which attracts the local to enjoy the breezy ambience in the middle of Bangkok. I felt as if i were in some small boutique resort close to the beach. it´s one of the best chilling nights i´ve ever had in Bangkok..
the price of the beverage is affordable, kinda the same as other bars around that area (sukhumvit)

the towel is also provided if u feel like swimming while partying ;) or you can just ask the friendly staffs who always walk around to check up if everything is perfect ;)

the location of the hotel is situated in Sukhumvit 33, which is between the BTS skytrain Asoke and Phrom Phong station (about 1 km)

I have the dubious title of being the last customer at livingstones in its current form (african themed) the german owner (for several years) is now retiring .Expect major improvements to this little oasis in the midst of soi 33 over tbe coming months with the new owner. I did not expect much during my stay this time due to them winding down the business. I am not complaining here as they bent over backwards to ensure my comfort at the right price in view of the upheaval. This review is intended for those who already may know this place from old
