“Gem in yaowarat - chinatown”
Reviewed 19 July 2012

Hv a two nites stay (from 29/june to 1st july `12) at this unique yet china classical interior design boutique hotel. Rooms were comfortable and clean'd and loved it. Will def. stay here again and
to recommend with frens around. One disadvantage point - venue of this hotel where cabbies
not knowing the way around eventhou printed with Thai language address for a better reference
to the drivers. Luckily one of the local thai showed the way around to this hotel location.

As just outside the hotel - yaowarat (thai - chinatown), night hours was truly with happenings aroundesp. foods stores along the roadside which delicous and many varieties - thai localties.

Sawadee....

Room Tip: Preference to go for the suite room type where its unique on its own...

We stayed one night in this gorgeous hotel and loved it. We booked based on the reviews in the lonely planet book and previous trip advisor reviews are weren't disappointed. The decor in the hotel is beautiful and the rooms were really different to any I have stayed in before. Unfortunately we had to leave really early the next morning to catch our train but the staff were extremely accommodating and arranged a take-away breakfast for us the night before which was ready for us upon checking out. I would definitely stay here again and would highly recommend it if you are looking to stay in the Chinatown area.

Shanghai Mansion, Bangkok is now my most favourite hotel in Bangkok. I just loved the hotel especially the Mudan Suite, a room not to be missed - a very homely and romantic room. They have whatever you need in the room, what's more, free mini bar replenish daily, no joke, there are beer, soda drinks, cookies and chips, This is my second stay, I choose to return to this hotel again as I always feel so welcomed especially from the front desk office, Khun Patty who without failed will greet you by your name when I step into the lobby, within second cold lemon grass water and towel come right in front of your eyes to quench your thirst and freshen you up. The Hotel General Manager, Ms. Khun Tassanee, every morning you will see her helping out with the Breakfast staff and go round the tables to check with the guests to ensure that they feel at ease and home with them. Check it out at this hotel if you are at Yaowarat Road, asked to see the beautiful cosy Mudan Suite, you will never regret!.

Room Tip: Better to engage the hotel conceirge to help book a taxi if you are leaving to the airport.

Me and my girlfriend stayed at the Shanghai Mansion for 1 night before coming home and quite enjoyed it. The only downside was the attitude of the staff when we checked in. We had spent a full 24hrs travelling to Bangkok from Phi Phi and arrived at the hotel at 7am. On arrival the girl on the front desk gave us a welcome drink which was nice but that's where her politeness ended. As we had arrived before the 2pm check in we were told we would have to pay 1000bt so we could get our room early. I asked why if the room was empty we would have to pay and she just said "you have too". I think it was just a little scam to be honest but after travelling for a day we wanted to shower and relax so ended up paying. I then asked about wifi she gave me the code then when she realised we were only staying for a night made a comment about not being able to use it, in the end she let us but again I think she was trying to scam us. After 50 mins and 1000bt down we got our room. Our stay after that was fine, it is bang in the heart of Chinatown and you can get a tuk tuk to silom for about 100bt if you want to go to the market or for a drink. The room was really nice and had a fantastic shower. Breakfast was nice, didn't have loads to choose from but it had enough. I wouldn't stay there again but only because i would rather stay in Silom. If you want to stay in Chinatown this is the place to stay. I wouldn't be put of by the front desk experience and would recommend it to anybody.

From the street it is hard to tell how fantastic this hotel is inside. Funky and classy Chinese decor with amazing attention to detail for the price. Staff were also excellent - the IT guy spent about 20min helping get my computer into the wifi. Also a terrific location. Highly recommend!

We had an amazing time in this beautiful, special butiqe hotel
The hotel is beautiful, we took pictures all over the hotel. It's like staying in an art gallery. That beautiful.
The restaurant - amazing food, great service and good price
Great location for exploring china town
But most important - the BEST SERVICE we experienced in Thiland. We had one little problem, and they were AMAZING!!
Also, the staff is so nice! We traveled with a 20 months old baby - everybody played with her, and helped, really - we had an amazing experience and I recommend this place. We loved every minute!

Room Tip: Take rooms on first or second floor Eat in the restaurant - it's great!

This is a very intriguing place. Very nice interior, great rooms, great restaurant and very friendly place. Although the rooms do not have windows, they are really not required. The mansion is a the start of Chinatown and you are really immersed into a whole different world. A must stay in Bangkok
