Superb

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 30 Aug 2012
Apart from the fact that I love Bangkok, this hotel is just wonderful. The decor, how it is done, furnished, is just a delight. The restaurant on the first floor is very good (the bar is just next to it) and the we enjoy very much the live music.

It's not expensive and the room was just perfect. In terms or comfort and decoration probably one of the best I have ever seen without the constant harassing that maybe you have in places like Mandarin Oriental. the idea of having little seat just outside your door was also very appreciated.

thank you to Shanghai Mansion for the great time we had

This hotel is really amazing !
You feel like being in an hotel on the Shanghai Bund in the twenties !
Rooms are delightfully decorated with lantern lights, I even had a bird cage with (fake) birds in the bathroom !
You do not feel being in Thailand.
Very recommendable.

My wife and I stayed here in September 2011 for the first half of our honeymoon. Tons of great restaurants nearby and a 7-Eleven on almost every corner. The hotel is actually right on top of a grocery store, so it was super convenient.

The hotel itself was great, an unbelievable value...If i can recall it cost us about $50 (USD) a night. The decor was old fashioned Shanghai style with hanging bird cages and cigarette ad posters - the wife absolutely loved it! Kinda 'Kung-Fu Hustle'-esque. In the center of the bottom floor is a long goldfish pond that creates the most serene atmosphere.

Breakfast was included and they had a great selection. You could order from the kitchen or help yourself at their all you can eat buffet.

Staff service was top notch!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here, I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to any of my friends!

Had a really great time at this hotel it was clean and the staff faultless. My Thai is very redimentary so the help in comunicating in English was fantastic. Food was great and the staff treated me like a member of their extended family. Just loved my stay and I will stay again. Thanks Yind and Beau, and the rest of the staff, only wish I could have stayed longer.

Myself and 2 of my friends stayed here in August on the recommendation of some other friends. We had been travelling around Thailand quite cheaply and so decided to treat ourselves for the last two nights of our holiday - best decision we've ever made!

Shanghai mansions is utterly beautiful - an oasis in the middle of Bangkok! The staff are so friendly and helpful, and cannot do enough for you! In fact when we arrived they told us that they had booked us into a suite, which was just over 4000 baht per night. This was a bit more than we'd budgeted for so we asked if they had anything cheaper available. The lovely receptionist came back and said they had rooms available for about 3400 baht, so we said we'd take that, but the receptionist said it was ok - they'd upgrade us to the suite at a reduced price of 3400! Amazing!

It worked out just under £25 each a night, but I promise it was worth every single penny! Not only was the room utterly fabulous (the bathroom alone was bigger than any other place we'd stayed in, and we had a decorative tree in our suite - a tree!) but the amount of complimentary things the hotel gave you meant that actually it was really good value! Breakfast was included in the room cost and was absolutely delicious - such a huge variety of foods, including a chef who will cook you an omelette of your choice! Also, the hotel offered a complimentary tuk tuk service to take you to some of the main attractions in Bangkok, including the Grand Palace and MBK shopping centre. So you save money on taxis too!

The location is great - right in the heart of China town with lots of lovely restaurants nearby. We also ate in the hotels restaurant which was excellent (try the chicken with cashew nuts!)

To summarise I would 100% recommend this hotel to anyone coming to Bangkok! And travellers on a budget shouldn't be put off by the price, as the amount you get for your money means it actually is good value! I will definitely be coming back!

The staff were very helpful, right from the beginning when they brought us a free drink while checking in. The room was beautifully decorated in a sort of 1930s Shanghai boutique style. It was also air-conditioned which was helpful. The location was good for easy access to the main tourist sites (Royal Palace etc) and the hotel itself is surprisingly peaceful despite being smack-bang in the middle of China town. It is a little pricy compared to some hotels but it was worth the money for the comfort it provided.
