This was a lovely hotel that I managed to get at a rock-bottom price thanks to Agoda. The rooms were quirky and colourful, decorated in an old Chinese style. I especially loved the coloured glass windows and (fake) bird in the shower! The bed was large with a firm mattress and new cotton bedding. Despite being in the middle of bustling Chinatown, there is absolutely no street noise and I slept brilliantly. The TV has a few English channels, though I didn't make much use of it. Good quality toiletries are provided, along with plentiful (new) towels, slippers and bath robe. There is also a complimentary minibar (soft drinks, beer and a couple of snacks) which is refreshed daily and a nice touch. The wi-fi in the room worked well, although you can only use it on one device at a time. There is no view, but the colourful windows make up for this.
The breakfast is fairly cheap (about 5 pounds) and there is a reasonable selection of Thai and western food (though no cakes, croissants or pancakes!). The staff are friendly and helpful, especially the bell boy, in giving directions and getting taxis.
Any down sides? Well it isn't really in walking distance to any trains (BTS or MTR) so you have to rely on taxis. However they are cheap in Bangkok. Also Chinatown is fairly central and you are within walking distance of the river (boats to other places up and down the river cost next to nothing) and The Golden Buddha. There is a 7-11 next door and a street food market along the road with delicious things to eat. There are also lots of Chinese restaurants. The big shopping centres and corrections museum, as well as Khao San Road are not far away too.
There is a jazz bar in the hotel foyer which is pretty popular.
Altogether I wouldn't hesitate to return.

I wasn't a huge fan of Bangkok but this hotel would be enough to convince me to return. Fantastic rooms and very attentive staff meant that this hotel was a little enclave of peace from the hectic city streets.

What an amazing hotel, when we first arrived there after a very long flight we were greeted with a nice refreshing welcome drink from the freindly staff.
we were to early to check in so we decided to go and get some street food which was fantastic.
the interior of the hotel is beautiful, makes you feel miles away from the busy streets in Bangkok. There was a wide selection for breakfast, enough to suite anyones tastes, also they had an egg station which i found pretty cool. The bed was MASSIVE, a little on the hard side but we found that in all the hotels in Thailand.
we ate in the restaurant which was fine dining and the food was second to none and they had a live jazz band which were brilliant.
The only problem we had with staying in china town was the fact we were "westerners" and some places wouldnt serve us food and drink...gobsmacked tbh. Also be careful of the taxi drivers at the front of the hotel they try and rip you off. Take a tuk tuk they are so much cheaper but make sure you tell them you only want taking to the destination and not to silk shops, bags, watch shops etc.

Room Tip: This is hotel is a must!

I stayed at the Shanghai mansions for two weeks, from the check in to the departure it was a great experience, everyone working there really, represented the hotel in the best possible way, also for anyone looking for a stylish hotel in the middle of BKK and central to everything BKK have to offer, I strongly recommend the Shanghai mansions, great décor, stylish and memorable, the whole team working there are a credit, see photos for examples

Every thing is great at Shanghai Mansion: Place, rooms, deco, service, food, jazz club, location and very good money for value, you will not resist. Almost Old Shanghai in Old Bangkok. One of the best romantic accommodation in Bangkok for sure.

The decoration of this hotel was absolutely flawless. Our room was possibly one of the most beautiful I've ever been in and the bed was massive. Free minibar was much appreciated, they even put a pack of crisps in the fridge! When we arrived, the man taking us to our room waited in silence for us to give him a tip- slightly awkward as we hadn't exchanged our money yet! China town is incredibly manic but the busiest night food stalls serve lovely & extremely cheap food. Would definitely recommend this hotel, calm in the middle of a storm.

I've been in Thailand for five weeks traveling all over trying to see as much as possible, we have stayed at the Shanghai Mansion every time we passed threw Bangkok. (3 times 8 nights total) You can't find a cleaner place with better staff!! The location is good, close to tourist attractions, train station and shopping. I would like to thank all of the staff for making our stay so enjoyable and making us feel like we are at home. If you need any help with directions or any questions about Bangkok just ask "Is" he is very helpful, polite and knowledgable in all aspects of his home city and country.
