Extremely Good !

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 15 Sept 2011
Somerset lake point has been one of the best hotels I have stayed in. The rooms and bathroom's are extremely clean and tidy, capable of meeting 7 star standards. The view is great. It has great In room fully functional amenities like washing machine, fridge and all the possible cutlery one may need. Its location is great about 7min walk to Asoke BTS (one can even avail the service of the hotel tuk-tuk to drop to the station)and has great masage parlours right in front of it for dirt cheap rates. Among these I would recommend Just Jenny as a must try.The only area where I think there is scope for improvement would be their breakfast. Otherwise, if I ever return to Bangkok Somerset is the only place I'll stay !

Stayed in a 3 bedroom apartment on 15th floor. Plenty of space for our family (2 adults and 3 children). Positives - very clean, comfortable but firm beds, quiet, excellent buffet breakfast with plenty of choice, helpful staff, great swimming pool and very useful to have a washing machine and dryer. Hard to think of negatives but apartment was a bit dated and the tuk-tuk service to the skytrain was rarely available and staff unable to give an accurate idea of when it would be.
We ate in the Cool Chilli restaurant a couple of times and it was fine. Good Thai and Western food and reasonably priced.
The spa was excellent value for money. Open until late and good choice of treatments which were very reasonably priced, especially the packages.
I would recommend this as an ideal place for families to stay. We last stayed here in 2006 and it has probably improved since then. Definitely a better breakfast.

The hotel seemed to be little old as we can make out from the tiles and carpet. The shower head was not working but was fixed after complaining however the shower diverter was a bit tight. The Breakfast was good with a lot of choices. Breakfast starts early at 5.30 am good for people who have to leave for early morning tours. Free tuk tuk is available to asok station. However for people who are on a short visit may not be a good option as it’s little far from asok/ sukumvit station coming back one has to walk and might be an issue if it’s raining. The restaurants are good with room service. The lady at the tour desk was helpful and gave us some tips for getting around and saved us time and money. However the guy who sits there doesn’t seem to be helpful. Overall, its little old and slightly far but good service and competitive price.

I travel to BKK virtually every month for business & usually stay in upscale hotels.
Some time I stay in upscale service apartments if I require bigger room.
I have stayed few times in Somerset Lakeview apartment hotel in Sukhamvit soi 16.
Hotel location is very good, noise free, convenient as several nice restaurants, Green Parrot cafe and Foodland mega food shop all are within 2 minutes walking distance.
Hotel is 5 minutes drive to Asoke BTS and hotel has free transfer to BTS.
It has all basic amenities, very clean lobby, rooms and balcony in suites.
Buffet breakfast is good, quality of food in 2 restaurants in hotel is very good.
I would particularly mention that staff is very good.
Reservations and check in are also handled well.
I would recommend this hotel to businessmen or families due to service quality and location. Hotel has a big contractor providing taxis however some taxi drivers are very rude.
All in all worth every penny and a decent 3-4 star kind of hotel and particularly good for long stay.

Room tip: Higher floor, lake view rooms are good

This property looked a bit more aged than other Somersets that we have stayed at. Decor looked a bit outdated and furniture definitely aged. We stayed in a studio room though, and it was quite spacious. We a usual appreciated the room amenities, as well as the fitness centers and pool. There is also a tour agent available with lots of different options for both short and long term adventures, although we didn't end up booking anything as most of Thailand is easy to navigate independently. No high pressure sales at all there. Breakfast options are plentiful and delicious, but it can get really crowded! Location is pretty decent, close to the Asok BTS. It is a short walk away or one could use the complimentary tuk-tuk that will take you to the main road.

Most of the staff people are pretty helpful. We had a couple of bad experiences with one particular staff person. We extended our stay and for some reason she couldn't help us reprogram our key card even after about 10minutes of waiting. We decided to leave and come back and pick it up. Then upon check-out she refused to finish up our transaction and run our credit card for the incidentals incurred. Instead she greeted my partner but only to answer phone call after phone call - with 3 other people working and us being the only guests in front of her. Her colleagues seemed irritated with her for this and had to come over and help us. She didn't wear a name tag unfortunately, so didn't catch here name and didn't want to bother or take the time to ask. She wore glasses and was slightly older in age.

I would say overall that this Somerset property was just okay. It was fairly average in comparison to other BKK and SE Asian hotels, but fell below Somerset expectations. For the price, there are several other properties in BKK that would are a much better value.

My wife and I have been travelling to Bangkok for many years and of all my experiences in Bangkok I would have to rate this, the worse.

We arrived at 4.00pm with a reservation for two rooms (my sister was with us). After completing the normal paperwork we were asked for our credit cards which I assumed was for a deposit if we broke or stole anything which is normal, later I find out this was the hotel charge for the 3 days we were there. Pity as I wanted to pay by cash, with a foreign Credit Card I get a poor exchange rate and get charged fee’s. I am used to paying the hotel bill on departure, maybe it has something to do with the clientele as has been mentioned earlier.
After payment was completed we were asked to wait for several minutes and then advised one room was not ready. Check in was from 2.00pm, this was 4.00pm!! I voiced my displeasure strongly and was advised it was housekeeping’s fault. If you have to stay later in hotels they charge extra, was I offered anything, of course not.
Once we got to our rooms we dropped off our bags and turned the Air Con on and left to find dinner. On our return we noticed there was water all over the floor and water leaking from the AC and my wife’s shoes full of water!! Went around in circles with different people for about an hour, why not just move us immediately!
Breakfast was one of the worse which I have had in Bangkok. They were obviously understaffed as I could not even get and empty cup for a coffee.
I will not be back, Pity as I had stayed at Somerset Park Suanplu which I had fond memories of.
