“Just Good Enough”
Reviewed 23 July 2014 via mobile

Facilities were good... ambience was nice and cozy... if its action you are looking for, which was what I was looking for at the time, this is not the place first on the list... theres action in the uber dark maze but I didnt feel like doing it with somebody I dont see... the pool was with leaves :)... havent tried the food but well, maybe next time.

My partner and I stayed at the Babylon in early June 2014. We booked into the superior garden room (The Bulgari room I think it was called) and it was great. Immaculate room, super comfy bed, crisp white sheets, all the amenities you could think of and a nice clean bathroom. Breakfast was lovely. As for the sauna, the best I have ever been to. I could write pages on how good the sauna was but this is probably not the platform to be discussing it. Probably the only downfall with the sauna complex is it is not clothing optional around the pool area despite it being for men only. Other than that - great.

Room Tip: The Bulgari room was great.

Very nice accomodation, something very special. In same building as the famous Babylon Sauna. Basic rooms, but even some more luxury studios and villas. The basic rooms in floor 4 to 6 have common shared bathrooms, not that much privacy, but maybe just vthat is the kick....Excellent breakfast in the morning, one free admission to the sauna per day. Staff is very friendly and helpful, you meet guests from all over the world, communicative.

Room Tip: floor 4 or 5.

This was my first visit to Babylon Bangkok and I has booked a Bvlgari Room at the rear of the complex.

It is unfortunate that many of the staff at Reception do not speak much English, and the welcome could be more friendly. As a first time guest the team spoke to themselves in Thai constantly whilst I checked in, I had no idea what they were saying and was left standing and waiting unsure of what I was required to do. That said, they were efficient, and I the room I had booked was beautifully appointed and very clean.

I could not fault the presentation of the Babylon environment. Every morning the gardeners were hard at work whilst I headed to the breakfast (complimentary) on Level 6 of the main complex, and the food they offer was lovely. You can select from hot or cold food, plus fresh fruit, tea or coffee, and toast and home made jams. The kitchen staff are attentive, and very helpful.

I ate at both the cafeteria and the restaurant during my stay, and the food was well presented. My only comment is that it could have been served hotter but this did not detract from the flavour at all. A tip for other guests - if you do not like the selection on display, ask to see the a la carte menu which you can also select from.

Given that the hotel also links to a sauna, as a Western traveller I was a little surprised that guests are given one lube sachet and condom in their locker, but if you want more then you have to request and pay for them (a minimal charge of 20 baht applies).

Overall, a lovely stay and the place is looking good for its age. If you are looking for somewhere which is not sleazy and presents well for a relaxing stay, then Babylon is well worth a visit.

Room Tip: If you don't want to share a bathroom, ensure that you request a Bvlgari Room. Whilst they are a...

Sak_Mgr, Manager at Babylon Bangkok, responded to this review, 17 May 2014
Dear Ryan S,

On behalf of the Babylon Bangkok management, I would like to express our deep gratitude for your glowing review of our facilities and services.

Based on your comments and those of first-time guests since last December, we are deeply concerned about the perceived services at our reception.

In order to rectify the situation, we like to inform you and other guests the followings:

- As part of our corporate social responsibility, we have been providing hundreds of job opportunities for over 2 decades for rural people. To enable them to communicate with foreigners in English, we simplify their job helping them to speak and understand rudimentary language about task at hand. For new employees, they might not gain English fluency.

- However we will introduce a new work protocols for reception staff designed to make first time visitors feel welcome and to address their needs, starting with immediate effect.

- We also like to take this opportunity to inform that we are improving our reception facility, expected completion date for next month.

Please consider this response as an open invitation for past and future Babylon guests to come, enjoy and assess our new look at reception. We pledge not to let you down.

Best regards,

Sak

The pool area is private, lots of vegetation, and filled with gay guys, many whom are friendly and social. The rooms were clean. Shared bathrooms? That can sometimes be a bit of a drag, but they're kept immaculate.

Some of the folk at reception don't speak much English, but we never had any problems. For the most part reception is not overly friendly, but certainly not rude. Perhaps 'indifferent' might be a good description.
True, dollar for dollar value in Bangkok you can do better. However, if you're wanting to meet and talk with other guys, then this is the place to be.

Room Tip: lift only goes to level 6, then you need to walk up or down to your floor.

It was great staying here, the garden rooms are huge with thoughtful touches and the location is quite central. The breakfast was good and the staff was friendly so all in all cant fault it. English might be a problem but generally its all OK. I enjoyed my stay and will most probably stay again but there are so many great places to choose from in BKK all under 3000 THB so really spoiled for choice.
