“Not For Everyone But We LOVED It”
Reviewed 22 November 2013

The Phra-Nakorn Norn-Len is not your typical hotel. In fact, it isn't even your typical hostel. You are not going to get all the amenities of home here, however, you are going to get a friendly and helpful staff, a building and rooms that are older but which have great decor, and a very relaxing atmosphere.

We had trouble getting to the hotel when our taxi driver dropped us at the wrong Phranakorn, about 3 km away. Make sure you have an address before trying to take a taxi! Because we had taken an overnight train to Bangkok, we arrived before 0800. It was obviously well before the check-in time, however, the staff secured our luggage for us, got us some tea, gave us the wi-fi password, and then brought us to the "living room" while they went to work figuring something out. 30 minutes later, they came back and brought us up to a room. Needless to say, we were impressed.

I understand the decor in each of the rooms are different, however, if they are all as great as our room they are outstanding! The hotel is old so, rather than try to give a facelift to an old building, they used it to their advantage with their vintage style decor. Really, they have done a great job; when you first enter it almost feels like you are walking into a museum and that carries through into the rooms.

The rooms themselves are not large but they are plenty adequate. If you planned to burn your vacation in your room in front of the TV this is not the place for you. There is no TV and there is no refrigerator. Instead, there is a CD player and a ceiling fan. Don't worry, A/C is included as well. The bathroom is a typical Asian bathroom with the shower head on the wall next to the toilet. It is not my favorite but I have found this to be the non-chain hotel standard in Asia. The hot water is not and there is a soap and shampoo dispenser. The beds are, in typical Asian style, a little firm but we slept well.

In the evening, when we got back from our explorations for the day, we found a tray of tea and hot water in a thermous waiting for us in our room. needless to say, we were pleasently surprised. When it was time to check out we were once again impressed by the staff. We had to catch a 0555 train so they arranged a 0500 taxi for us and made sure we would be able to check out that early in the morning. They also arranged to have sandwiches made so we could bring breakfast along with us.

I want to reiterate that this isn't everyone's cup of tea, but for those who would enjoy the experience and are willing to pay a little more than your average hostel it is truly a great hotel to stay at.

Dear Guest,

Thank you very much for taking the time write us your review : )

We are a small hotel hiding in the neighbor and not many people notice that there is a hotel located here.
But not too difficult to get here if you have our address, map and even better if you have our number for the driver to call if he get lost. Another thing is our name, many guest cannot pronounce our name in the same way as Thai people know so you better show our name in Thai too ^ ^

The travelers always have the difference flight so we also prepare a living room or a shower room in case you need to use after the long flight. Also the early check out, we don't want you to miss the breakfast which is the most important meal of the day so we provide a sandwich pack with juice to take away.

Hope to see you again if you have a chance to come back to Bangkok next time : )
Have a slow life.

This is a nice friendly hotel with a community oriented lifestyle, slowness and sharing. I like the common spaces and the decoration, all made from recycled materials in a very playful way.
also, the staff was very nice and helpful, it really gives a sense of feeling like "at home". An oasis of tranquility.

I stayed 3 nights here and very enjoyed it. When you enter in Phra-Nakorn you immediately feel the relaxing ambiance (appreciated in the busy Bangkok) and the kidness of the staff. The room was very pretty. The food was great (breakfast + roof top restaurant). Phra-Nakorn offers a lot of services : free wifi (+ one computer), washing machine, massage, and has a very nice shop where it is easy to find gifts. From Phra-Nakorn, it is easy to reach Wat Pho and the grand palace by boat . Khao San Road is also very closed by taxi. I definitely recommend Phra-Nakorn.

Loved this hotel! Don't be fooled by the somewhat grubby front entrance. When you enter Phra-Nakorn, it feels less like entering a hotel than a stage set. Delightfullly faux "shops" evoke Bangkok of the 1930s. The magic continues with the super comfy futons, tropical ambiance and super friendly-warm staff. The food was extraordinary--each day a different and delicious breakfast special with super-fresh ingredients. A boy each morning puts tropical fruits in a juicer for your juice and a variety of espresso drinks are first rate as are the cocktails on the roof. Try the mojito with fresh mint and basil! Everything about this place is pretty, dreamlike and relaxing. The location is great--in a residential area with an easy walk to the ferry.
Would stay here again and again...

Room Tip: No elevator and not close to "tourist" things but that can be a wonderful plus.

We stayed one night here, and we enjoyed it a lot. Nice Thai breakfast. Hard bed. :-) Original and cosy interior.
And we especially liked the relaxing area after a busy day in Bangkok. An amazing quiet area.
We had dinner on the roof top, where we enjoyed the view on Bangkok.
We would definitely come back to this address.

I was really surprised when I came to Bangkok from Australia. "What a crazy city" I thought.
I was very tired after walking in the city but when I entered Phranakorn Nornlen, I could feel peace. Also everything was so pretty! I loved the design and pretty colors. There are cafe and small gift shop on the grand floor. Smoothie that I had was beautiful :-)
There is a space for relaxing too. I just sat there and stayed long time. Very peaceful.
My room was very pretty too. my nose is sensitive so I noticed the water sink smell a little bit but that was ok, better than using strong chemical for cleaning I think.
I joined free cooking class. That was amazing too! Staffs are so kind and I had a wonderful experience!!
The location was a bit far from the station but worth for staying. I loved this accommodation!

What a great experience in this peaceful house ! Rooms are clean, the view from the rooftop is nice, the staff is very helpful and the vintage design is pleasant.
Banglamphu district is far away from crazy and noisy city-center, you can discover the authentic Bangkok. We highly recommand this place !
