We arrived bleary-eyed at 2:00 am, and were greeted with chilled fruit juice and a friendly reception. Breakfast was awesome, and beautifully presented. The staff were so helpful and all the little touches (tea in the evenings to your door, handwritten thank-you's with the receipt) made our trip memorable and special. For us, it close enough to Khao San but mercifully, far enough away to get a better sense of the neighborhood. We stayed at a five-star hotel in Bangkok later on this same trip, and would have preferred coming back to PN. Sure, you can get a good room in other parts of the city, too, but will you leave a little piece of your heart there like we did at PN?

The hotel is a hidden gem. If you want a real Thailand experience then this place is for you. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Their focus is to make sure that you experience "slow life." The breakfasts are incredible! It is within walking distance of the river ferry system which makes getting around a pleasure. Check out their Web site for pictures of the fascinating decor. http://www.phranakorn-nornlen.com/

There are many reasons this hotel is rated so highly on TripAdvisor.

- The staff are very helpful and always smiling.
- Location. The hotel is located in a more local neighbourhood (explore). A quick walk to Stop 15, Express River Boat service. Ask for a map (to print) and you will have no issues with taxis etc finding the hotel.
- Quiet. You walk in from the hustle and bustle that is Bangkok to a place of calm; relax.
- Rooms are nicely decorated, somewhat artistic. Handmade soap, CD player. There is no alarm clock but you can easily ask for a wake up call. Note: The bed is quite firm.
- Food. Simple and tasty selection, nice breakfast (included) and good coffee!
- Free Internet, although a little slow. Perhaps a upgrade in speed would be a good idea? There are several newish Macs, the older PCs are again a little slow.

You know that scene in "The Wizard of Oz" where Dorothy opens the door and the movie changes from sepia to technicolor? That is what it feels like when the door opens at the Phrnakorn-Nornlen. Friendly helpful staff, beautiful simple textiles and furniture, delightful non-conventional rooms, pretty garden, and excellent breakfast! If you are looking for plush luxury this is not the place for you. If you are seeking simplicity and nature-oriented serenity, then this is the place to stay!
