“An overpriced residence”
Reviewed 21 April 2007

I stayed here for one month, 24000 Bath (685 USD) plus utilities. The location is good in a quiet soi, Saladaeng soi 1, within walking distance to Silom road, about 10 minutes. The entrance and lobby was nice, very bright and cozy. It tried very hard to have a boutique feeling (read: expensive), but the place was a guest house, no more no less.

The room was a disappointment. At 25 sqm, the bathroom took up most space already, only enough room left for a double bed. There was no elevator. Internet was included in the price, but it was so slow most of the time that I had to walk to the internet cafes on Silom.

Electricity was 6 bath per unit, doubled of what the government charged. I ended up paying about 1500 bath for the month.

For Bangkok, I have found other places with better value for monthly stay. The nightly rate here is definitely too high, for 46 USD you could stay at a 3-star hotel with more amenities, nicer room, and better service.

The Sunrise Residence is located in the Silom District off of Saladaeng Road on a quiet soi (lane). It is a five minute walk to the Skytrain and good shopping. The location is great because it's in the center of everything and near to public transportation, but it's on a quiet soi.

We stayed there for three nights. We checked in at 2:00 am and the staff was cheerful and welcoming despite the late time. We had warned them of our late arrival and they happily responded that they would be glad to receive us then. The staff at the hotel is great. They are very accommodating and friendly. Their English is good and they know a lot about the local area. They are helpful in getting taxis and contacting local businesses when needed.

The room was very well appointed. We took the most basic room but it was not basic feeling. The bed was very comfortable. The lighting in the room was pleasant. The bathroom, although simple, was clean and functional. The shower was hot and the tub HUGE! The room had a large closet with a rod and drawers. There was also a safe deposit box. The room was also equipped with a small refrigerator. The hotel gives you two free bottles of water each day. Towels were replaced every day and the laundry was always very clean. There was a television with good channels for English speaking folks. There was a movie channel (HBO or something like it).

The lobby area of the hotel is pleasant. When we were there it was relatively cool in Bangkok so no A/C was needed. They had lots of fans going and the temperature was perfect. There is a television and sitting area in the lobby. There is also access to free internet (although it was very slow). Breakfast is served in the morning for about 250 baht. It includes coffee/tea, egg, sausages (really just hot dogs, but they were good!), vegetables and some fruit. The fruit changed every day and was always ripe and fresh. We enjoyed breakfast there each day especially since it's hard to find restaurants in that area that serve western breakfast.

We really enjoyed this place. Check out their website for online booking discounts.
