I really enjoyed my stay at this hotel. Location wise, it's slap bang next to the Grand Palace and Wat Poh, a two minute walk to the public ferry to Wat Arun, and Koh San Street is easily walkable, or if you don't want to walk, a short tuk tuk or taxi ride away. The flower market is very close, but really taxis are so cheap in Bangkok (if you insist that the meter is switched on) that virtually anywhere is accessible.

The hotel gives out a list of recommended local restaurants - I ate at one of them - very good.

The breakfasting arrangements at the hotel are a little quirky, with guests eating the the neighbouring coffee shop, but the food was freshly prepared, hot and tasty and the service also good. Rooms are very quiet, spotlessly clean and comfortable.

The staff were unfailingly helpful and friendly.

We came to Bangkok on the start of our honeymoon and after many trip advisor reviews chose this hotel as our first couple of nights. It was very very clean and the staff friendly. There has been some construction in between the property and the river, so unfortunately the view of the wat arun has all been blocked. Even our room which the manager helped me hand picked with a nice balcony did not have a view to the wat. It was a bit of a disappointment, but many other reviews had said this fact, so we knew going into it that this would be the case. It was a great location though near all the most important city Wat's. It was walking distance to Po, the Grand Palace and the pier to the Wat Arun. This made our two days in town great and easy to see what we wanted. I have been to Bangkok many times and I will say that it has been almost ten years since the last time and this neighborhood has become full of touts and scams. So just keep your head down and don't talk to strangers around here. Just go and do your thing and you will have a great time.
If you are looking to shop, then Siam and MBK are a cab away or you can walk down to the Shangri La and catch the skytrain, but it will still take you awhile as it is on the other side of town.
The place down the street called The Deck which is apart of the hotel Arun Residence has a great view of the Wat Po and good drinks. I personally thought the food was over rated and the thai dishes lacked flavor that so many places on the street had. Maybe the

I'm gonna fail to express how much we enjoyed staying at the Aurum. The very small staff was INCREDIBLE in every sense of the word. Like having a friend in Bangkok. Above and beyond any kind of personal attention I've ever received at a hotel. The moment we arrived they began to treat us like family. They warned us of the scams at the nearby Wat Po and Grand Palace(tuk tuk drivers will try to tell you the sights our closed today and they'll take you to another temple but it's a scam where they end up taking you to jewelry and suit stores where you'll be pressured to buy). They told us how the river was going to be shut down that day for a rehearsal of the royal boat parade and that we should't miss it. Then even called our room when it began. They must have looked up a dozen restaurants for us and wrote down the addresses for the cab or tuktuk drivers. Though we didn't take them up on it, they personalize your breakfast for you, Even offering to make us sandwiches for our flight back home since we were leaving at 345am. And a friendly reminder wake up call when we forgot to even set one up. OK you get the point, the staff was great… on to the room and hotel itself. Location is great. On the river and a short walking distance to Grand Palace and Wat Po but far enough away that you don't feel like your in tourist central. A 7-11, ATM, two markets and any number of street food vendors are also nearby. We stayed in room 401 which is what I assume is the nicest room in the hotel because it's the top floor and has the best view of the river. The room is quit large with beautiful hard wood floors and has a delightfully, somewhat awkward design due the angle of the building. Other features are firm beds, soft pillows, robes, free in room WIFI, free bottled water, small out of the way TV, mini bar with room for personal items, and aromatherapy bath products. Some minor things to us that may be important to others are a poorly designed tub that leaves a decent amount of water on the floor. The bathroom is sunken and we trip over the step down several times. Even with the direction card most cab drivers don't seem to know where the hotel is, most nights we would just get dropped off at Wat Po and complete the 5 minute walk to the hotel(The Wat is beautiful at night anyway). And though the view from the room is amazing, for those who love quiet, there is a lot of noise from the river. As much or even more than some roads with loud barges and longboats with large out board motors, and they start very early in the morning. All minor things to us. The restaurant Chote Chitr is a must if you stay here(about a 15 minute walk).

As stated previously the hotel was well located, near the Grand Palace, Wat Pho, the amulet market, among other BKK attractions. The Wat Aurum was also nearby, on the other side of the river, but getting there wasn’t easy since it involved travelling by cab 30 minutes or taking a ferry. The hotel surroundings were kind of messy. Sidewalks were crowded with food, massage oils, ointments and other artifacts.
As for the hotel, building was nice, clean and the staff was extremely polite and helpful. Rooms were kind of tiny and maybe a little outdated. There were not department stores, big markets or shopping areas around, so if you are looking for that kind of entertainment, this is not the right hotel for you. Breakfast was simple but fine, and views were worth only if you stay in a full river view room, which are scarce.
It is also worth noticing that there is not sky train station at a walking distance from the hotel, so you might want to consider this fact, since sky train is the best way to move in BKK. Even though cabs are cheap, drivers speak little English and traffic is a mess.
I would say the Aurum is a nice hotel but nothing spectacular. I guess you could get a better deal for the same rate.

Room Tip: Ask for a full river view if you want to be able to open your window and watch somethig worth it.

If you can get a room at this place while you are in Bangkok grab it. It's the perfect location. Get a room overlooking the Chao Phraya river. It's super close to the Grand Palace and Wat Pho with the Reclining Buddha. What I really like is that it is just around corner from Tha Tien one of the piers to get the river taxi. And the popular The Deck restaurant and bar with great views of Wat Arun is 2 mins walk away.

Room Tip: Get a room with river view or partial river view.

This little boutique hotel may be one of the best kept secrets and best values in Bangkok! Our room is lovely; we asked for a partial river view and that's exactly what we got, with a lovely balcony! We could watch the river traffic and had a gorgeous view of Wat Arun. We could not be more pleased with our selection; all thanks to Trip Advisor. We wanted a hotel that was close to our Grasshopper Adventure Night Bike Tour(another TA recommend) and this is great! We plan to take this bike trip again with friends in December and we will definitely bring them here for the stay! So quaint, quiet, and peaceful.....away from the maddening crowds that ARE Bangkok!
