“Cosy room after a day's shopping”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 June 2013

Me and my sister chose Grottino for it's close proximity to the ASOK BTS and SUKHUMVIT MRT. Plus it was just a few buildings down from Terminal 21. There are so many massage parlours flanking the road on the way out that we got to try a different massage house each evening (at unbeatable prices).

The room itself is a little too dark to my liking since I like a good read before turning in. While we were pleased with the bathrobe, hair dryer and umbrella hidden in the cupboard (it unexpectedly started drizzling), we didn't much like the too large towels (kept getting the ends wet) and lack of a water kettle. But then all this are minor details when we were hardly in the room anyway.

I like the owner of the hotel. He was most courteous and always had a smile when we had any enquiries. We couldn't charge our smartphones and he did his best to get a suitable adaptor for us. Thank you again, sir. Also to the young lady who showed us the way to the sukhumvit MRT, i've forgotten her name, but thank you as well!!

I have been staying here for 10 years. First as a single traveller now with my wife and family. The rooms are just perfect. Super high quality. Rafael the Swiss owner and retired Amari Hotel Executive hasn't missed a detail. The rooms of this little Boutique are comfortable & stylish. The Grottino Restaurant is wonderful offering Thai and European dishes as well as many Swiss Specialities. The small hotel staff is long serving and well regarded by long time customers.

Important: there are many trendy boutique hotels in this part of Bangkok. However if you stay at the Grottino you will notice that many of these other hotel's owners: hang out of the terrace of the Grottino to eat and socialize. Nothing quite makes the point of the delight of the Grottino experience than hosting the locals.

The Swiss Grottino is a real gem and offers far more than good food or a good room. The Grottino really is a destination and is a unique part of the Bangkok experience for travelers who found this place from around the world.

Grottino is under new ownership and management, but it's still the 'Cave' for many of us. I enjoy the location most of all as it's close to Sukhumvit, but not noisy--a little hideaway on a quiet side street off Soi 19. Step out of the hotel, turn left and left again toward Sukhumvit and there's a line of taxis and motorbike taxis parked just waiting for you. Turn right out of the hotel and another right on Soi 19 and left on Sukhumvit and go down the escalator of the MRT downstairs and come up on the other side of Asoke and turn right--Soi Cowboy--5 minute walk. Eateries everywhere, transportation everywhere or walk for a few minutes and everything you want is within a reasonable distance.

Rooms may seem a bit small, but all you need it for is sleeping and showering. They are cleaned daily by the helpful staff and each room as everything you need...bed, shower, toilet, TV, AC, safety box and a window overlooking the quiet side street. There are dim lights under the sides of the beds to give the room a little glow. It's quiet in the Grottino, but sometimes you can hear your neighbors.

Restaurant downstairs serves Swiss food and it's good.

Any questions or issues and the management promptly addresses your woes (if any).

I've stayed here for years and will continue to stay here as it's my home away from home.

I have stayed here many times over many years, usually at the start or end of every Thailand trip for the days in Bangkok. Run calmly and profesionally by the excellent Daniel Winkler this a unique residence with a small keycard private entrance in a small quiet sub soi off Soi 19 just down the road from the huge Westin hotel on the Sukhumvit corner. Location is excellent, near to Robinson's store, a short walk from Asoke and Soi Cowboy entertainment district, a comfortable longer distance walk to the Nana Plaza and NEP entertainment area, and within easy reach of the Skytrain system.

Rooms are neat, well laid out, of modest overall size but good decor, with nice touches like towelling bathrobes, and very well maintained daily. The discreet entrance with key card and no reception staff means the hotel is especially friendly for single male travellers and their guests with no 'joiner fees' or restrictions. There are room safes. If you want a change from Thai food, eat excellent pastry and croissant breakfast with good coffee, and superb dinner menu with good quality wine in the evening, authentic swiss food, very european high standard, discreet service and all in all a really pleasant more private residence experience than any of the Sukhumvit tourist hotels. Prices are only slightly higher than some middle market tourist hotels but well worth it when you want a more private ambience, 1,850 -2,000+ baht per night depending on season, approximately and very good value.

I really look forward to my stays here and alternate between Grottino and a middle budget hotel in Soi 11 for variety but would reccomend Grottino to anyone wanting a more tranquil quality haven in this area of Bangkok.

Found this hotel through Agoda for around 1800 Baht a night.

Location is great, next to Terminal 21, right behind Robinson at Sukhumvit-road.
So is the metro and sky-train from where you can reach the important spots of BKK without the hustle of the taxi's.

Check-in was fast and sufficient, Grottino uses keycards for the hotelrooms.
The hotelroom is big enough for a couple, when you travel solo its great.

Big bed with enough pillows, flatscreen-TV with DVD-player, telephone, mini-bar, extra stuff to make your stay more comfortable on top of the mini-bar, air-con, desk with chair and a cozy, little lounge-couch.

The bathroom is very clean and sufficient.
A hairdryer for the ladies and enough soap to wash every part of your body.
A big pro are the huge towels, they are great!

I made a reservation for a couple of nights but I gladly extended it till the end of my holiday in Thailand.

Highly recommended!

Run by long time Swiss residents of Bangkok, the hotel and restaurant are operated very professionally and, as another reviewer mentioned, 'very Swiss' :o)
Excellent food quality and taste, clean and convenient rooms. The location is excellent too - a few meters down a small, quiet side alley behind Robinson's Department Store, Sukhumvit, and a 3 minute walk to the Skytrain.
Great for anyone looking for a quiet, comfortable haven in busy Bangkok with a European ambience, and definitely a good place for homesick Swiss!
