Soei has been one of my favorite Thai restaurants for many years. It's a unique restaurant, formerly along the railroad tracks, but now tucked into a neighborhood. Dishes are in general on the strong tasting side - spicy, sour, herbaceous. Some of my favorite dishes to order: fried mackerel heads (kaem pla too แก้มปลาทู), wasabi raw shrimp (goong chae nam pla กุ้งแช่น้ำปลา), roasted freshwater prawn salad (pla goong pao พล่ากุ้งเผา), fried egg salad (yam kai dao ยำไข่ดาว), soft shell crab curry (boo neem pad pongari ปูนิ่มผัดผงกะหรี่).

If you like to try an original Thai cuisine, this Soei its a 'must' resto to visit. Located in a peace street, try to be patient when they are prepared your food.

Nothing good to share. I witnessed the owners talking smack to the customers that waited for hours for their food. I waited 2.5 hours for my food to start arriving and this place took 4 hours total of my time. INSANE! Also, you are not allowed to cancel the order, weirdest of weird. Otherwise, you pay the bill without eating! Try canceling and you will be yelled at by the most ignorant people in Thailand. What a shame!

Also, be prepared to not be able to customize your food. All the food are cooked in rounds of several tables, so if you want less peppers, well...suck it up!

The most horrible service ever. We waited 3 hours and only got 3 dishes (that came .5hour apart). Our little kids were starving and could only eat plain rice and some snack at the counter. After 3 hours, we asked to cancel the rest of the order. The answer was no and that we'd be billed in full. The owner was screaming saying she's got two hands, so why were there 50 tables when you could only cook in rounds of 10 tables at a time. Nasty! We ended up paying for the menu we didnt even get. Food was not as good as years before. Stay away!

Be patient and don’t visit when hungry. Is it worth the wait, it all depends on your taste preference for Thai food. The flavours are what Thai say “rod jud” or if I could translate as intense not tasty or flavourful. Oh and most dishes are very spicy - all of this caters for drinkers where this kind of intensely flavoured food and the rather slow speed of service complements each other.
