Pullman Bangkok King Power
Ranked #67 of 885 Hotels in Bangkok
Reviewed 31 May 2009

During our recent 9-night stay in Bangkok, we found the Pullman King Power to be in a good location with services at an affordable price with the quality one would expect of a luxury hotel.

Location: If you are using the BTS (Skytrain) to get around, the Victory Monument stop is only about 2 blocks away. The free tuk-tuk shuttle will get you to the mall and a quick walk through Century Mall will get you to the station (and perhaps a good place for breakfast at Mr. Donut and getting cash at the plethora of ATMs). Siam Square (shopping) is two stops away with easy connection to the Siam BTS line for access to river taxis, MRT (subway line), Jim Thompson house, train station, etc.

Hotel Services: The front desk and curbside service was outstanding. We were offered free drinks at Glen Bar (in hotel) at check-in and our rate included two sodas or juice each day and 4 hours a day for Internet service (Note: Wireless is only available in public areas of the hotel and you must use a hardwire in the room). The hotel spa was offering a 40% discount on massages (ask for it) with high quality staff and facilities. With a generous tip, we paid around $45USD/each for a 1 hour and 30 minute traditional Thai massage. Of course, this is expensive in Bangkok and there is a place across the street that is much cheaper; however, we thought it was well worth the price given the level of service. The pool is fantastic and we found the hotel buffet meals very good and affordable (breakfast was around $15USD/each and dinner $22USD/each). Getting a taxi was simple and the curb-side attendants made sure the taxi driver knew where we wanted to go. Overall, the staff had a good command of the English language.

We had one instance where a beer from our mini-bar was charged to our hotel bill by mistake; however, the front desk staff quickly resolved the problem by crediting our account.

We would recommend the Pullman to business and leisure travelers a like. If you have any questions related to the hotel or our recent experience; by all means contact me.

Hotel is brand new, and very swish. There is an abundance of glass and light in all areas of this hotel, due to it's very modern design.

Staff are extremely friendly, even at 3am when we checked in!

Our room on the 14th Floor didn't really have a view of much, but what it lacked in scenic views, it made up for in style! The bed was so comfy and the bathroom so clean, modern and new, it was heaven.

We were upgraded to a Deluxe room and that included 4 hrs internet (that's four hours per person staying in the room, so 8 hrs is a lot per day) and 2 free drinks from the mini bar.

The hotel pool is stunning, it has to be one of the best hotel pools I've ever been in. I especially like how it's done as an infinity pool, even though you're on the 4th floor. There is also a kiddie pool separate from the main pool, and a lovely spa area. There are lots of frangipani trees around the pool, so there are always floating blossoms in the pool, which just add to the atmosphere.

On level 4 there is also a gym and a spa.

The location is quite central, you're only a short walk to the sky train station or an even shorter Tuk-Tuk ride (which is free, the hotel has it's own Tuk-Tuk's that frequently travel between the hotel & the sky train station). This was very handy, as it rained quite frequently whilst we were there, which meant we didn't have to walk back to the hotel in the rain (the hotel does provide umbrellas, which are in the closest).

The sky train station at Victory Monument is only 2 stops from the shopping area of Siam (MBK, Paragon, short walk to Centralworld) which was very convenient.

The only drawback of the hotel, was that actually eating or drinking there was reasonably expensive (when travelling on Aussie Dollars).

There is a happy hour at the Pool Bar between 4-6pm each night, where you can get 2-for-1 drinks (Singha Beers are 170BHT each).

We booked through Expedia and you don't get Breakfast included in the room rate, nor are you eligible to collect frequent flyer points on your stay (ie Qantas).

Breakfast is 600 BHT per person, and although it was a lovely breakfast, this was a large sum of money to pay.

The Wine Pub on Level 2 has 100 BHT beer night, which was great. The service was excellent and the ambience great in the bar. We had a great night there, from what I can remember!

There is a shopping centre very close to the hotel - at Victory Monument where the Tuk-Tuk drops you off. In this complex there is a post office (basement), Cinema Complex (level 3) and various shops (food, such as Swensens Ice Creamery, Boots Chemist).

If you walk to the sky train station rather than taking the Tuk-Tuk, there are a variety of shops & retaurants. I recommend Sea-Son-Ing just near the entrance to KingPower/Pullman for dinner and cheap Chaing Beer.

There are also two 7-Elevens on this street, which is handy for cheap drinks & nibbles.

Great hotel that I would definitely stay at again.

We stayed here in May and have chosed this hotel based on the reviews from Tripadvisor. I have enjoyed my stay there and would definitely want to return and stay longer in my next trip. The room is spacious with modern and contemporary design. The hotel staffs at the conceirge and reception are always smiling, helpful and speak good English. The hotel also offers wide range of morning breakfast spread ranging from western dishes to chinese dim sum.
The hotel location is quite strategic that you can easily find restauraunts outside of the hotel. There is also a shopping mall with Tops supermarket nearby, where the hotel provides free tuk tuk service that stops right next to the mall. BTS Train Station is just right in front of the mall.
We could not ask for anything better for the price that we pay for...it's definitely a 1st class hotel with all the right elements!!!

Stayed 3 nights before heading to Khao Lak. Ultra modern hotel with many young staff who were very polite and courteous throughout.

I loved the location being a bit out of the main action as there were many traditional thai places to eat and drink at extremely low prices. Victory Monument station is 5 minutes walk away and this will allow you to get round the city quickly and cheaply.

Excellent city hotel and for the price paid it was a massive bargain.

I stayed in this Hotel in April 2009 for three nights and I could find very little to criticise. Rooms were excellent (we had two),breakfast was probably the best I have experienced since the Hotel Du Lac in Riva,Italy, and the main restaurant ran theme nights with generous discounts for guests. The food was beyond reproach and the service ,both in the restaurant and at the reception was first class. There is also a smaller Thai restaurant at the other end of the main hall, which, unfortunately, we didn't have opportunity to try.
The reception area is enormous and there is a large secluded garden and Carp pond area near the main restaurant. The only marginal downside is a rather bland swimming pool. But the pool bar compensates somewhat with a happy hour which starts at 6pm.

Adjacent is The King Power shopping Mall, which is quite upmarket and also contains a pristine Thai / Japanese cafe.(reasonably priced and excellent quality fare). Also, within 150mtrs of the Hotel entrance, on the main road, is a SevenEleven market store ,which is very handy for stocking up on drinks for daytrips. These stores are very popular with the locals and ,consequently, almost everything is comparatively cheap..
