“Great Value for money”
Reviewed 17 January 2011

I stay at the Frasier suites every time I go to Bangkok. I like the modern rooms, which are always HUGE, comfy, well equipped, with free wifi, and SUPER cost-efficient, you are getting a lot of bang for your buck. The check-in is quick and painless, the breakfast is passable, and the service is great. It's in a really happening area, surrounded by loads of great restaurants and bars. Perfection for a short trip or a long one, if you don't mind having a small pool.

Apartment-style hotel rooms in the US tend to be in somewhat dull suburbs and to be more suited to business travelers. The connected-two-bedroom apartment that we stayed in at the Fraser Suites made us feel the closest - that we've ever felt in a hotel room - to being able to 're-create' home. Bangkok was warm during the day even in December, so we found ourselves staying indoors more than we'd thought, and we felt lucky to be staying in this hotel.

Pros:
1. very spacious rooms and bathrooms, with a balcony that could be useful for smokers; the higher floors are quiet
2. an underrated restaurant, which has very friendly staff and does a few really good dishes (example: red curry sea bass);
3. a good (free) breakfast, which includes Thai as well as Western items (example: spinach pie), and good coffee and espresso;
4. I got very useful advice from the staff on the optimum taxi fare to, say, the Grand Palace, where to go for a panoramic city view, and which riverside spot would be convenient for photography with a tripod! ;
5. its location saves you probably an hour in getting to the Suvarnabhumi Airport at rush hour
6. the free wireless that they provide works
7. the shuttle to the Nana BTS station can come in useful, especially on a warm day; BTS appears to be the best way to get to the Chao Phraya piers, etc.
8. the hotel gets the basics more than right - efficient check-in/check-out, room service, room amenities including climate control, hailing of taxis for guests, etc.

Cons:
1. The other side of the location coin (convenience in getting to/from the airport) is that the Chao Phraya (along which are quite a few of the major Bangkok sights) is about 4 km. to the west and could take 40-55 minutes to get to, at busy times; however, most travel guides recommend using the BTS (Skytrain) anyway and the BTS Nana station is walkable (10 minutes) from this hotel (which also runs a shuttle that can get you there in less than 5)

2. If only the hotel could supply the room with an additional bottle of water daily, the trouble of having to go to the 7-11 just for water could be saved

Chaiyun, Pafhan, Kwanchai and Abhichai (in the Agua restaurant), Anon (security), and Ekkarat (reception) were very friendly and helpful.

The very articulate and conversational Rohit (co-owner?) mentioned the hotel may be expanding soon. I hope its restaurant capability will get then its due.

We stayed for 3 nights during December. In terms of the apartment, everything was provided and you could live here comfortably. The bathroom was amazing and quite big with a strong shower. The food, both Thai and Western was really good and you can order room service until midnight, they were consistent with delivering the food in a timely manner. The staff were really helpful and genuinely friendly. The breakfast was really good with lots of choice and high quality food. We were guaranteed a peaceful nights sleep in an apartment that was beautifully decorated, comfortable and luxurious. The apartment was of a good size and felt spacious and airy. We would definitely stay again!

As a first-timer in Bangkok, I expected my stay to be a delightful one. Unfortunately, my experience at the Fraser somewhat downgraded my expectations. Following much online research, I decided that Fraser would be the best bang for the buck. However, the pictures are deceiving. On the surface, you are presented with a cozy hotel offering most of the amenities a traveler seeks on his or her visit - pool, gym, restaurant, wireless internet. What cannot be captured in pictures is a rude staff that responds extremely slowly to simple or urgent requests, if they even respond at all. The first night I was there, I asked for a towel, but never received one. My next simple request was an adapter which I was told would be delivered to my room within 5 minutes. That too never came, which made me go down to the lobby myself to collect it. Surprisingly, however, when requesting advice on tour packages offered through the numerous tour agencies located throughout Bangkok, Fraser is quick to offer their own grossly overpriced tour packages. The lobby staff does not greet you with the hospitality characteristic of Thai culture, but with grim, sometimes condescending and brief remarks. Overall, I felt the Fraser was not in the business of catering to its customers, but ripping them off, while offering subpar customer service. Upon checkout, I was handed a list of arbitrary "service charges". When I asked for an explanation or justification for the charges, none was given until I demanded that I consult a manager. The manager was understanding and accommodating and waived the fees. To begin with, however, these hidden costs should be explained to the customer prior to check in. In summary, clean room, fair breakfast (for the price), but less than helpful staff.

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on your recent stay at Fraser Suites Sukhumvit , your comments are greatly appreciated .

I take note on your comment in regards to the service delivery issues as mentioned which are taken very seriously. Maintaining an exceptional quality of service for our guests are a top priority for us and we do at all times strive to provide excellent service on matters like these. However , on this occasion we have not met your expectations and I apologise for this .
I have already addressed the matters with the Department Heads concerned.

In terms of the tour packages you mentioned, we are not affiliated with any tour groups and do not provide any tours of our own. The prices and information that was provided to you were based on those offered by third-party companies for which we do not receive any compensation.

In terms of Service Charge, most 4-5 star hotels in Thailand charge between 5-10% service charge on top of the room rate. At Fraser Suites Sukhumvit, we charge 5%. It is a standard industry practice which is clearly communicated to our guests at the time of reservation.

I sincerely appreciate the time that you have taken to provide us with your feedback. I hope to you will be back to stay with us the next time you are in Bangkok. You can be assured we will do everything to make your stay a memorable one.
