“A good hostel but too far from the centre”
Reviewed 20 July 2013 via mobile

This hostel was good - the rooms were clean and the staff were really helpful. However, we found having to get the train in to the centre everyday got expensive. Though quiet, we would have preferred to stay somewhere closer to town.
Further, although breakfast is inclusive, I feel the rooms are overpriced, especially as they are not en suite.

We arrived at just after midnight due to our travel plans not knitting together quite as we expected (as per usual when travelling). We had come from Beijing so the £20 a night for the two of us seemed OK.
After travelling Thailand for 3 months I can now see that it was a bit much but hell, we enjoyed our stay.

Please ignore the 'terrible' review as it was back in 2009 and a lot has changed since then, we even had WiFi in our room ;)
There's a little model pond with fish out the front, funky wood furniture in reception and books to borrow/swap. There is a sun area on the roof and a little snug which adds heaps of character.

An electric door stops any non guests getting up to the rooms and the reception was always manned. This meant that the tired staff weren't always their cheery selves but if you made an effort to speak then they would return the curtsy. We try to speak as much Thai as possible wherever we go which is always appreciated even if not understood.

We had a double room, shared bathroom. The bed was fine but I like a hard bed anyway, the girlfriend likes a soft one, we both slept well so what does that tell you?! Not too noisy night times. The bathrooms were always clean, Hot water showers that always worked..

Breakfast was simply cereal and toast with a coffee or tea if you wanted which was more than enough for us and saved us spending more money eating out.

It is located 2 minutes walk from the SkyTrain which will take you to most places you want to go and costs from 10 - 40 baht.

There is a night food market just outside which serves as good food as you'll find in the best restaurants so if you're on a budget then I highly recommend having a look around.

We'd stay here again.

Location is a very importand part in Bangkok, and for this - that hostel is located very nicely on the Thong Lo BTS. A place where many expats live in Bangkok. Nearby you have the choice between fancy restaurants at moderate prices or the (real fantastic) streetfood right outside the door at Soi 38. I now live in Bangkok and always come back to this food street. Try the Sticky Rice Mango, and the shakes, but the real star is the satay with it's unique crunchy peanut sauce.

I stayed both in the dorms and private rooms. No complaints. Aircon isn't working before 6pm in the dorms, but thats no deal if you aren't sick.

Additional things that will make you happy:

- Roof terrace
- Clean Bathroom facilities
- Basic but o.k. breakfast included
- Option to use the kitchen
- friendly staff
- 24h open

I always recommend this place to friends who visit on a budget.
Enjoy your trip

Room Tip: The dorms aswell as the privat rooms are a good deal!

Quiet, clean and comfortable. Ironing room, free tea and coffee, good wi-fi access is available on all floors, on the first floor a few computers with web camera and nice area for relaxation. Nearby there is a street with Thai food. Where you can find fresh fruit, noodles and more.

HI Sukhumvit loses a half a star for being far from many attractions (not a full one because it's 3 minutes from Thong Lo station) and another half for value. That being said, it's clean, comfortable, well-decorated, next to the best night food stalls, in a safe upscale neighborhood, near many great restaurants and a big movie theater. Remember that taxis are very cheap when the meter is used and all drivers know how to get here!

The location is pretty good, steps away from the tram. There is pretty good food on the street at night.

The room was pretty bare, but served its purpose. The staff was not helpful, getting any help was a difficult task. The free breakfast was just a few pieces of toast and instant coffee.

Location: Excellent. About 200m from Thong Lo Station, a Post Office is round the corner and just outside the door is one of the most famous street-food streets in the city (Must tries inc. chicken satays, crispy pork and rice and mango and sweet sticky rice)

Breakfast: Included. Usual hostel offerings of cereals, toast and hot drinks.

Pros:
+ Good wifi throughout (Inc access to a couple of PCs)
+ Dorm room beds have curtains around them, a personal light and hooks.
+ Good options for long term luggage storage.

Cons:
- The rooms have air-con but its switched off centrally from 11:00-18:00. Even when it's 35°c+ outside!
- Some room may be up quite a few flights of stairs if that is an issue for you.
- Quite a lot of mosquitos about and no mesh on any windows.

Would I recommend to friends: Yes for the street food. No for the air-con.
