My daughter and I stayed at House by the Pond on and off for a period of two weeks. When we arrived, we were struck by the charm of this gem of a hideaway in central Bangkok. We each had a comfortable, air conditioned and well appointed suite. Room service is available and the management would call a car if needed. We felt safe due to a 24 hour guard.
The hotel is lovely with intimate gardens. We would wake up to hear the sound of birds...a little oasis in the center of the city. The decor is charming, giving a feeling of being at home. The style of furnishings is both Thai and European in combination. The staff was friendly and helpful. Our laundry was done the next day.
I definitely prefer House by the Pond to any other luxury hotel in BKK. It has the intimacy and charm that larger hotels lack, and is nestled in a quiet, but central, part of the city.

A nice place if you're going to stay a while, in that it's a cheap and cheerful roof over your head. The decor is straight out of the 1970s, and may be original pieces. We found that the rooms were not cleaned to a high standard, the wifi was intermittent (at best), and the kitchen was almost unusable. (The knobs on the burners had long ago been stripped of their markings, and the light that indicated whether the burners were on had burnt out, which meant that trying to figure out which burner was on what setting was an lengthy and risky exercise.) That said, food in Thailand is cheap, so eating in is rarely a value conscious option.

Throughout our stay, the air conditioner leaked profusely onto the floor, to the point that we were worried it would start raining in the apartment below. They repeatedly sent someone up to "fix" it, and it repeatedly failed.

The location is not ideal: it's about a fifteen minute walk to Sukhumvit, and cabs are sometimes unable to find the House.

All this said, it's cheap and the staff are helpful, making it a pleasant place to stay. The fitness center is nice, with more machines than I would have expected at this price. The hotel simply needs a lot of investment to fix up the interior.

House by the Pond caters to the discerning traveler who values peace & privacy. The apartments are airy, well-kept, and spacious. The neighborhood is largely upscale residential - perfect for morning runs.

On your time off, you can relax on the beautiful rooftop setup that comes with a pool and amazing 360 views of the city.

Definitely heading back there on my trips to Bangkok.

Coming for a quick vacation from work in India, the House on the Pond provided the perfect sanctuary for rest and relaxation while being close enough to enjoy the sights of Bangkok. The beds were comfortable, with more amenities than I have seen in many a foreign hotel. The kitchen and living room, with central AC and TV that serves both rooms was especially appreciated.

The roof top is a great place to go to admire the city at night, and to take a quick dip. A small cafe with foreign luxuries, Thai style, just opened aside a beautiful gallery right amid the grounds of the hotel. The grounds are very well setup with a garden and fountain on the ground floor.

Dark continental furnishings or modernized rooms are available, based on your preference. Personally, I liked the recently renovated rooms in the older building for their at home feel, dark and relaxed styling, and homey feel. An easy place to sleep in comfort.

I recommend it for a few nights, if that's all you have in Bkok, but felt myself really wanting to stay for at least a month in the fully furnished apartments (this brings down the already reasonable price pretty substantially).

We stayed at House on the Pond for a couple of nights while doing day and short overnight trips from Bangkok. It was such a great place to come back to after a couple of days traveling. We stayed in a great room on the first floor, with a little deck out into the garden. The room was clean, comfortable, spacious. The dark wood paneling is very different from some of the more 'modern' hotels, and has a great, cozy feel.

In fact, the entire hotel--which has several common spaces (including bookshelves, internet, etc)--is outfitted in a more traditional, European style. While decorating in this way could come off as trite, House on the Pond pulls it off gracefully. The gardens are beautiful, the common areas cozy and well-furnished, the decorations tasteful. The rooftop is another highlight. While the pool is small, it is perfect for a dip to cool off and the views of the skyline from the roof are fantastic.

The staff is also extremely helpful and kind. I do think this hotel would be even better suited to long-term travelers, particularly because all the rooms have kitchens--small but completely functional, and outfitted with basic pots, pans, knives, etc.

We found the location a plus as well: although you are close enough to central Bangkok to get to great shopping, dining, attractions, as well as transportation (BTS, taxis) within an easy 10 or 15 minutes walking or just a couple of minutes on a motortaxi, you are also secluded enough to really feel away from the hectic bustle of the city. The entire hotel is very quiet, private, and cozy: a wonderful place to escape if you need a break from the city, or to return after a busy day/night and get some great sleep.

Would definitely recommend!
