“Great hotel with a couple minor problems”
Reviewed 3 January 2009

Let me start by saying the hotel staff really goes out of their way to make sure you have a great stay. Supat in particular is very nice and helpful. The property is absolutely beautiful... and an amazing value for the very low price. The rooms are comfortable and decorated really well. There is also a kick [-] roof deck that overlooks the city. We didn't use the pool because it was right next to reception and we felt a bit funny, but that looked nice as well.

There are a few drawbacks to be aware of... most of all it's EXTREMELY difficult to find. It's not on a road, it's on a canal. Even if you make it to the nearest intersection, someone from the hotel has to meet you on the corner and guide you in. It took us 3 hours in a cab (2 of which were spent driving around/sitting in traffic in the general vicinity) until our cab driver found it. This was after he called the hotel directly and was given directions in Thai.

We stayed in 2 different rooms and neither had a hot shower. It was the type of shower that floods the whole bathroom (and the hallway outside if you don't remove the drain plugs). I understand it's a hot country, but after sightseeing all day in the hot sun it's nice to be able to take a hot shower.

The final annoying thing was the internet. They have 5 computers, but you can't just hop on one. You have to buy time... a minimum of 30 minutes. This wouldn't be so bad if you could use 5 minutes, log out and use it again later, but I tried that 3 times and my remaining 25 minutes were gone. I don't think it's too much to ask to have free internet. It's not like most people want to spend their entire vacation on line. We stayed in a hotel 3 times the size in Phuket that had 5 free computers and I never had to wait to get on one.

One last thing. The only difference between a 'standard' and 'junior' room is the 'junior' room has a television. You're lucky to get one station in English and that's only some of the time, so if this is why you're choosing a 'junior' room don't do it.

Anyway... overall a great place! Just make sure you have a really great map so you know where to get out of the cab!

My boyfriend and I stayed at Lamphu Tree for 4 days and just loved it! Although it was a bit difficult for the taxi driver to find it (be sure to have a thai map for the driver!!!), it is located in 10 mins walking distance from Kaosan Road and Grand Palace. We booked a standard room and were not disappointed - it was decorated in a nice Thai style, was very clean and had a good, comfortable bed. It had a small bathroom with warm water shower, small balcony and functional aircon. Breakfast (toast, jam, eggs with bacon, coffee or tea, juice and fruits) was served in a open-air restaurant on the ground floor which was very charming. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Really liked to have a drink at the rooftop terrace! All over - you get an excellent value for money!

This delightful oasis has very attentive and friendly staff, excellent facilities, quiet rooms, and is well located for those who don't mind a short walk or tuk-tuk ride to the main tourist sites in the old town.

The staff really go out of their way to help, and we never had any problems communicating in English. If you have any particular requirements, such as a quiet room, a taxi to the airport, or anything else, the staff happily and reliably oblige with a smile.

As stated by others it's essential you print the map to avoid being dropped at the similarly-named Lamphu House on Rambuttri - tell the taxi driver "Wanchat Bridge" to avoid doubt!

We wholeheartedly recommend this hotel and would definitely stay again!

Me and my girlfriend stayed at this little gem in October for 3 nights then returned at the end of our stay in November for 2 more nights. I would recommend this hotel to everyone.

Its situated right on a canal below a bridge, had difficulties at first trying to find the place (The taxi driver got lost) but we eventually got there after the taxi driver rang the hotel and he was guided in.

On arrival there was a nice welcome drink brought to us as we gained our room key and then our bags were brought upstairs to us which was very helpful considering I was carrying a big rucksack mainly filled with my girlfriends "essentials"...!!!

The rooms were a nice size, we didnt have a TV which really was great as it allowed us to read about what we wanted to do on holiday without any distractions. The shower was hot, and the beds were big, also the rooms had air con which was a godsend especially after being out all day in the heat.

One thing I would mention - there is a beautiful roof top terrace which has a bar and is a great viewpoint over the city, we only discovered it on our last night and wished we knew earlier, but go up and see for yourself.

Koh san road is literally 5 minute walk if thats the type of thing your looking for, but I would recommend taking a journey to Lumphini Park or experience the chatachuk market on the weekend which is incredible.

Anyway this is a great value hotel, with a lovely breakfast and very friendly staff who cannot do enough for you

I hope you enjoy this place as much as we did.

The staff seemed confused about us when we arrived, even though I had confirmed just a day or two earlier and could see our name on the ledger in front of the manager. Communication was problematic as few hotel staff spoke English well enough to explain what was going on. For example, when we checked out, the desk person said our minibus was waiting, but put us into the wrong minibus. Instead of going to Hua Hin, we wound up at the airport. We didn't think to check. Other than that, the stay was fantastic. The rooms are simple, but really nicely appointed. Everything in the room (tiles, woodwork, bed, even the shower curtain) was of very high quality and obviously selected with great care and concern. Very comfortable and roomy bed. Air conditioning worked great. The woodwork is absolutely lovely. We didn't use the pool, but it was beautiful. We especially loved eating breakfast in the open air lounge with the cool breeze blowing over us. Good breakfast, by the way. Great service. Good coffee! The price for the hotel is very reasonable. One suggestion would be to have a map with Thai directions as I don't think the Thai taxi drivers could read the English maps given to us to get back to the hotel. I would definitely stay at the Lamphu Tree House again and recommend it to other travelers.

My husband and I loved Lamphu Tree House! Staff was extraordinary and really made things happen and helped in any way possible. Our stay was very comfortable. For the price, there is nothing better.

Make sure to print out the map for the taxi drivers OR have the number to Lamphu so that the taxi driver can call them. It is quite difficult to find. But if you let the staff know you're coming, they will help the taxi drivers find the hotel and meet you while you're walking to the hotel.

Since I saw the rating for Lamphu Tree House slipping I decided to put in my own experience of this fantastic hotel!!! We travelled up to Bangkok from Krabi on an overnight bus and arrived in the city at 6am. We thought that we would make our way to the hotel and leave our bags there until we could check in later on in the day. On arriving though we couldn't believe when they showed us to our room straight away!!!!!! we managed to get a morning sleep in and I'm sure we could also of have breakfast as well that morning! Great service that you wouldn;t even see at a 5 star hotel. Breakfast every morning was fantastic and the pool and the sun deck just a great addition if you just wnat to chill out from the day. However, it really was the staff really were fantastic to us, as we were stuck in Bangkok due to the protesters taking over the airport. We were orginally meant to be there just 3 days however had to keep extended our stay while we figured out what to do. Because of our situation and others in the hotel at the time, the manager only charged us half price for the room, which we feel was very considerate as they really had a captive audience. Also as we tried to arrange things with our airline, they was no problem using the hotel phone for free. Even though I rang America they refused to take any money. When we finally were able to leave Bangkok, the manager without even us asking him wrote down the name of the bus station for us in Thai so we could give it to the taxi driver... I know it's something small but really all there help made the experince so much easier for us!! Thank you Lamphu!!
