This is a lovely Thai style hotel - tucked away (and many taxi/tuk-tuk drivers couldn't find it easily) but very accessible for all the main temples.

The staff were very friendly and helpful.

We would stay there again if we return to Bangkok.

We booked this for two nights (Dec 29 and 30) at $1750 baht per night - peak season. It's close to Khao San road, but far enough away that you don't hear the noise.

We like to walk when we come to a new city and the major Wats, Royal Palace, etc... are close enough to walk to, but you might be tired enough by the end of the day to take a taxi or tuk tuk back to the hotel.

The rooms: clean, basic, good air con, firm bed and pillows, hot water, and refrigerator. The lighting by the mirror / vanity area was very dark.

The hotel: service at reception was so-so, but the restaurant staff was very helpful. The rooftop deck is a wonderful place to relax in the evening and the pool is great to cool off from the heat. Breakfast has lots of choices and they were very tasty, but they are all Western ... no Thai food, which was a disappointment. The lobby computers cost $30 baht for 15 minutes and were fine for email, etc...

All in all a pleasant if not very notable stay.

Located near the Royal palace, Wat Pho, Kao San Road and ather sights. Just off the road on a Khlong (canal), the hotel is quiet for Bangkok, rooms are clean and comfortable, the restaurant serves nice basic thai food and the breakfast buffet is very complete. Perfect for a few days in Bangkok

New Years Eve 2010 for 5 nights and worth every penny. Arrival was met with a smile and a glass of vino. They'd messed up the booking and only had one room down, but showing them my confirmation email on my phone quickly resolved it and my sister was bumped to deluxe. There's no need to go deluxe - the rooms simply have some more furniture (for example a dressing table). Aircon is great and is activated by dropping your keycard in to a slot. I wouldn't leave it on all day, as it cools the room pretty quickly (though south-facing rooms keep cool much easier than north - these are 211, 311, 411 and 511).
There's free WiFi, 802.11g, but this is also shared with the 6 desktop PCs in the reception, so there's not much bandwidth to go around (especially if you plan on uploading lots to picasa). It works out on average as around 2-3mbps down and 512k up, though that assumes no one else is tapping it. It's encrypted, but the key is so obvious it may as well not be.
Their food is excellent, the green curry was superb. Just note that they only serve brown rice (as depicted on numerous signs).
One thing of note is the services they have on offer - such as tours. We did the River Kwai, Waterfall and Tiger Temple, which cost 700baht each. Tiger temple is visited last - so get there early on your own instead if you really want to do the tiger experience (though it's 4500baht for the full day's monty).
One last thing is please learn how to say hello and thank you - it really goes a long way. And if there is any confusion - do not under any circumstances get shirty with the staff, this place is run on honesty and service.
Oh and here's how to find it - get the bus from terminal 8 for 150baht and get off at Khaosan road. Get to the end of it and at the large stretched-roundabout, walk past the Wat (temple) on your right. At the cross roads, go left and over the bridge. Immediately at the other side of the bridge, down the stairs and left down by the river passed a Heineken bar and what look like people's houses. You're there. Don't get a tuk tuk or taxi and get ripped off. Ask for meter and don't get in if they refuse.

Good value for nicely decorated mid-range hotel. All the amenities we needed: aircon, fridge with free water, good shower, decent buffet breakfast (well except for drinks - juice and tea a bit poor), luggage storage, rooftop bar, etc. As someone who mostly stays in cheaper places I found the extras a bit pricey (laundry, internet) but I'm sure you'd pay a lot more at one of the big international hotels. Location good - along a canal so quiet (and taxi won't be able to drop you at door, but only 50m walk, so don't bring too much luggage!) - pretty easy to pick up a cab once you get back to the road, and a short walk from Banglamphu

Cold Pool, excellent cocktails and food, good service.
That is what best describes this hotel, would certainly stay here again when next in Bangkok!
Was much better than last time when we stayed at the Asia Hotel.

We found Lamphu on Tripadvisor and booked with them for three nights at Christmas time. For the amount of money we spent on our stay, this hotel surpassed our expectations. The immediate surroundings of the hotel are a bit dodgey, but the hotel itself is very pleasant & inviting (open-aired, modern, clean). They are within close proximity to a lot of the main tourist attractions. We enjoyed the restaurant food and the buffet breakfast was outstanding! The staff were always happy & extremely helpful and their English very good for what we encountered in other hotels in Thailand. They are proud of their TripAdvisor ratings and rightfully so. Our only complaint about this hotel was with a tour that we had organized through them. The tour turned out to be a scam (as we had been warned about tours in Bangkok beforehand, but thought we might be safe booking one through the hotel). We did the floating market tour and DO NOT recommend it. The floating market itself is completely inauthentic, you will be charged money on top of the tour just to rent a boat, and the tour guides spent a large part of the day just taking us to various tourist traps we did not want to go to before we arrived back in the hotel almost 2 hours later than planned. We were very disappointed and although we would gladly stay at Lamphu again in the future and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Bangkok, we would not recommend any of the tours the hotel advertises. A small complaint though about a great stay! My boyfriend even proposed to me on Christmas outside our room on the balcony, so I will always remember this place fondly.
