“Do Not Stay Here - Photos are Deceptive”
Reviewed 28 December 2013

We were entirely misled by the photos. What we encountered was a nightmare. First, the taxi driver could not find the place -- not surprising, since it is marked only by a very small sign that points up an alleyway. When, after almost an hour, the place was finally found, we were appalled. We walked through the alley to what can only be described as one-step-above-homeless accommodations.

The air-conditioner, such as it was, was over the bed (!), light from the hallway was also over the back of the bed. The shower was part of the toilet...one would need to take a shower over the toilet bowl.

We could go on, but you get the picture. We left, after a brief time to deliberate where we should do next. Avoid this place.

Although it's located down a bit of a creepy alley, its location itself is great; not too far from Khao San Road but far enough from the noise. The rooms were very small (you had to climb over the bed to get to the desk) but comfortable and the price was very reasonable. The staff were very friendly and chatted about our travels. Lacked a common room though so didn't really meet any other travellers. Good place for a short stay.

I stayed 3 nights at the Amarinn Inn and it was really nice. The host is really helpfull and very nice once you know him a little. The room is really clean and the bed is excellent ! The neighborhood is nice with plenty of cheap places where you can have a drink or dinner and gives a quick access to most of the places you will want to visit in Bangkok (either walking or usin tuk tuks). It is a really great deal in Bangkok !

This hotel is a great value for the money. Quiet, clean, friendly staff, powerful A/C, plentiful hot water, and close to Khao San and downtown without being in the middle of it. There is a nearby Muslim mosque that makes an early morning call to prayer betwen 4:30 and 5 am but that is hardly the hotel's responsibility. Instead of getting upset about it, I welcomed it as a reminder that I am in a foreign land with different customs. Which is why travel, if I wanted everything to be the same I could stay at home. I would much rather the 2 minute Muslim prayer then the constant noise of drunkards from 9 pm to 4 am. I was booked at the Amarin Inn for 3 nights but stayed 8. I would go back and I would recommend this place to a friend. Compared to other hostels, hotels, and guesthouses around the same price this place is amazing. If you print off the directions from their website they are in English and Thai, so a taxi or tuktuk will have no problem finding it.

Room Tip: Staying on the lower floors will improve the wifi reception.

We had a lot of trouble finding this place but once we did we felt relaxed and welcome by the very friendly staff who later helped us in booking our bus journey up to chiang mai. The rooms weren't that great but the convenient location made it seem a lot better. The toilet was leaking after every flush and the room was very tight. The only other issue was the muslim call every now and then in the day and at around 4am; not a nice thing to wake up to.

We recommend this hostel if you are a backpacker on a budget in need of being in close proximity of Khao San Road but away from all the noise.

Room Tip: Find somewhere just off Khao San road, it will be much cheaper and quieter.

I kind of liked staying at this place because, although it's not super easy to find at first, it's quiet and relaxed. You can access wait to the livelier areas but wake up in a more chilled neighborhood (by Bangkok standards obviously). Rooms are clean and functional. So, yeah, basic but ok.
