We stayed here for 4 night and really loved it. The room was spacious and beautiful and the breakfast was great. Staff was helpful and attentive. The hotel is fairly small and it has a lot of personality. After living and traveling in within the region for seven years, we would highly recommend Aruntara Hotel and it remains one of our favorites in South East Asia.

This is the epitome of boutique hotel. It was well decorated, intimate, and charming. Service was great. Food was mediocre, but there are plenty of great places to eat not far. As an American, I'm afraid we are used to very soft beds. We weren't prepared when we pounced on the bed and found that was more like a wood plank with foam on it. If your sensitive to sleeping on extra firm beds, you may want to reconsider, but I say get over it and stay here.

The pool was very small and more like a pool on a personal property than at a hotel, but it is adequate to cool you off if you need it.

It was a GREAT value and beautiful property.

A beautiful well kept small hotel with thoughtfully appointed rooms. We found that the staff could not do enough for you and the only problem that we had was the hard bed and the mattress was changed as soon as we spoke to them about it. Food excellent and although it is a 20 min walk or 10 min by tuktuk from the center it was worth it for the peaceful location by the river. A truly relaxing experience and we would look no further if we were to return to Chiang Mai.

Room Tip: We had a ground floor room off the courtyard walkway with its own outside area and outside day bed i...

Our stay that the Aruntara Hotel located on the quiet banks of the Ping River exceeded expectations with the beautifully quiet manicured grounds which relaxed the body and mind when drinking and chatting with friends or preparing for the day with a modest but well appointed breakfast. At night dinners were carefully prepared by a very skilled chef and catered to a range of local and international tastes. All the hotel staff responded with enthusiasm and a welcoming Thai graciousness to all requests and were most helpful in providing guidance, recommendations and assistance with arranging tour activities, advice on visiting charming parts of the old city and sincerely and promptly responding to our needs as guests of the hotel. If the TV programme 'Getaway' could enter the doors of the Aruntara they would discover a sensative but striking presentation to the reception area, standard rooms well appointed and uniquely designed in a northern Thai style with generous beds elevated on a platform within the room, shutters to an adjoining full bath ensuite and tranquil views of the inner courtyard. The atmosphere is cool and breezy perfect for an afternoon nap or reclining by the sheltered pool sundeck reading a novel, or taking in the distant evening echoes of temples situated further along the banks of the river. Located some 20 minutes by tuk tuk from the centre of the old city (likey faster by airconditioned taxi), the Aruntara is a welcome escape at the end of a morning's temple touring, elephant trekking or jostle amid the Sunday night market to retreat and relax for the next day's adventure. Many thanks Aruntara we will be back!

If a 'Riverside Boutique Hotel' means well-appointed, discreet, serene, clean, nice rooms, helpful staff and all-round good value, then the Aruntara Hotel has it all. The reception staff are unfailingly helpful and polite with a smile for everyone and nothing is too much trouble for them.
The restaurant and bar staff treat everyone with unfailing courtesy and politeness and will go to any length to make one feel comfortable while eating or drinking and the chef will do his best to deliver anything you ask for.

Likewise those members of staff 'behind the scenes' who are responsible for cleaning rooms, tending the gardens and generally ensuring that your stay is enjoyable. Again, discretion is the key word, one might not see them as they go about their daily business but the results are self-evident. Example - I asked for some laundry to be taken from my room, within 2 minutes, the housekeeper and the room maid were knocking on my door to let me know and return 10,000 baht I'd left in the pocket of my shorts!! Excellent service, but somehow I get the feeling that this level of service is the norm. With that in mind then, congratulations must go to the management who obviously have a really good training programme in place.

We've been here for three weeks and I can honestly say that I'm sad at the thought of leaving, We shall soon be living in Chiang Mai so that means I can return on the odd occasion and enjoy a meal with people I've come to think of as friends.

I've stayed at various 5 star hotels around the world and I wouldn't care to recommend most of them. However I cannot recommend the Aruntara Riverside Boutique hotel highly enough.
Do give it a try.

What a intimate resort, what a lovely stay!

The resort may not compare well in size and sophistication of design like hip design hotels or huge 5 stars, but this is a real charmer. The resort is a prime example of how photos do not do justice to the atmosphere, intimate feel and great service one encounters here.

Every staff member we met was kind and patient; the service was never intruding yet very personal. The detailing of the hotel design may not be tip top but they show great effort and genuine attempt to do something special for the guests. The breakfast wasn't huge but being an intimate resort, it felt homely. There are minor lapses like a small row of storage cupboards next to the staircase (which is not very sightly) and two short power down in my room, but all is forgivable as we can always nick pick if we want to. I'd rather choose not to as the resort genuinely gave us a peaceful and quiet environment so elegant and personal, I wish I stayed longer. Style and good taste from the exterior to the room prevail. The legendary Thai hospitality permeates.

The hotel is a little out of the way but the reward is peace and absolute quiet against the backdrop of a great river view. I sat on a rocking chair at the tea room after breakfast every morning and it was bliss. It feels 5 stars but you are paying 3 stars. Great for couples and friends seeking some time away from hectic life in the city.

Chiang Mai is better off with Aruntara. Absolutely.

Try it with an open mind and heart, you will love it like we did. Bravo!

Nice quiet hotel by the Ping River. Comfy room, although the mattress is on the floor so just be prepared for that.
