“The only place to stay in Chaing Mai”
Reviewed 19 July 2012

A great place to stay, great service, staff, accommodation and food. The staff couldn't do enough for you, complementary fruit baskets and even a birthday cake for my husband. Quiet and peaceful, the perfect place to stay. Only a short tuk tuk ride back from the night markets. It spoilt us for our next destination.

Room Tip: We stayed in the elephant suite

I loved staying here. As soon as you walk in you are surrounded by tranquility. It really is super quiet, peaceful and also very private for such a small property. You could walk around and see only one or two other guests.

The staff are absolutely delightful - they were the highlight. We received lovely cooling lemon and honey welcome drinks and were personally guided around our room which was really great for the price size and design wise. I love the hard beds - they are what a bed should be and great for your back etc.

Amazing value and location is no problem at all - just grab a cheap tuk tuk wherever you want to go but do be prepared to explain directions in some detail to the drivers as they are a little hapless to say the least. The hotel provides you with a really good mini map to help with this.

Also - do make sure to eat at Dash! which is a fab restaurant nearby.

Thanks to all at the property - amazing and would stay again.

Very comfortable and friendly boutique hotel. Beautiful setting with riverside garden and small pool - very peaceful and quiet location on the edge of the main town centre - so a little away from the hubub but easy to get to and from and around and about... Room was very comfortable, food was great and a very relaxing atmosphere.

We stayed here for 2 nights in the basic room which was more than adequate in size. The rooms are very well kept and have very good air con. Nice sized bath and separate shower. The staff were great- very polite and helpful. Be warned though that if you want to walk in to the walk anywhere, pavements are not the norm- this will be true to all hotel locations of course. Happily a tuk tuk ride will cost 50-100B with the price you pay being seemingly plucked from thin air but to be honest for us that's so cheap it's just not worth trying to haggle someone down by a few pence! Location for us (1k from centre) therefore wasn't an issue. Our bed was as hard a mattress as I've ever experienced which my girlfriend loved but a bit firm for me.

Quiet and tranquil location and nice breakfast.

Chiang Mai has a host of cheap hostels so this place is obviously more pricey but it's probably the type of hotel you'd pay 4-5 times as much for in London, Paris or NY so in my opinion this place is pretty good value.

Well done to the staff and owners of Aruntara.

Aruntara is absolutely beautiful. Its so peaceful and super quiet.....you can hear a pin drop at night. Everything is thought of and provided for you, love the wifi and in room stereo. The rooms are modern, clean and very big - love the huge bath. Not too far from town - we used the free bikes to ride around Chiang Mai and the free shuttle service into the night market daily. We love the relaxed breakfast and the friendly service by the staff. We stayed in low season and only paid around $65 a night Aus which was very cheap for the quality of the hotel. Def. recommend staying here while in Chiang Mai.

Beautiful hotel set right on the river. The swimming pool and garden area are fabulous for relaxing in.

Rooms are beautifully designed. The bath next to the bed, separated by wooden shutters is so relaxing..

A little way out of town, but there is always a tukl tuk on hand to take you into the city.

Only down side is the price. Yes - it is a beautiful boutique hotel, but I would say a a few thousand Bhat too much per night. Still worth a visit if you want tranquility in Chang Mai

I will recommend Aruntara to city dwellers who is looking for a serene and reflective time. My husband and I stayed for 4 nights in the hotel.
First, the colonial style with asian flavor lobby is soothing to soul. And when the door to the courtyard is opened, we feel the tranquility swimming gently into us.
Our room is at ground level. It is spacious with good segmentations of bed, mirror and bathroom. The showers are comfortable with strong water flow.
Personally, I think that the breakfast selection is find with an option to a healthy choice dominated by fruits and yogurt.
In the day, there are nice corners for reading. But do bring a mosquito repellent if u choose one in the lawn. I got a surprise visit from a gentle and loving cat. She came over and glide through my legs, asking for a pet. After that, she sat there quietly accompanying your read.
The only minor shortfall is that the pool is a bit small, which I think if you want a dip from the summer weather, it is fine.
At the end of the trip, I hope that I can visit Aruntara again with friends. It offers an excellent get away from city.
By the way, although the location is not in the town, a tuk tuk or the red car are conveniently available. And the drivers are nice and friendly. Aruntara also offers daily rides to the night market.
And another recommendation is that you may consider to bring your favourite music or movie DVD, the player is available.
Thank you for the comfortable stay.
