My wife and I have always stayed in the Shangri La when visiting Chiang Mai, but after reading some of the reviews decided to give this a try. We drove here from home so aftrer the 8 hour cross country drive I was a little frazzled to say the least. Finding the place was a little tough, the map from Hotels.com, so to say the least 'basic' so when we finally got here I was ready to explode. The place is an absolute treasure. The decor is beautifully tastefull and relaxing. The central courtyard which has the bar (my favorite part) is very relaxing with the constant sound of running water. The rooms are also beautifull, with very classic colors and contemporary funishings. My Thai wife, who is usually highly critical of hotel massages, since they are nornally not really 'Thai' was highly impressed, and trust me she aint easily impressed! And last but not least, I paid 50% per night of what I would have paid at the Shangri La. Yep I now have a new favorite in Chiang Mai.
