We stayed at the Aruntara at the height of the Bangkok protest issues. It seemed that the hotel was only 20% full because of the problems in Bangkok. In terms of service, the restaurant, the rooms and pool, I could not fault the hotel. Location could have been a bit better as you needed to catch a tuk tuk to see the main town and the night bazaar. Having said that, a tuk tuk only cost between 60 and 80 THB, so given the nice surroundings at the Aruntara, I would probably stay their again rather than going for a better location.
