“Great value for money”

This place is great. It is within walking distance (20 mins) to the old town and the night markets are less than 5 mins away. Kem and his wife are extremely helpful and were happy to arrange anything that we wanted to do. The room was very clean and comfortable and we would certainly stay there again if we come back to Chiang Mai.

This place is a real gem in the middle of Chiang Mai. 5 minutes walk from the Night Bazaar and 10 minutes to the local and flower market Vanilla is in the thick of it. However for how close bars and the Night Bazaar's are it is very quiet and I never had trouble getting to sleep.
The basic double room had a good Air Con system, A tv with cable and decent shower with hot water, free wifi and breakfast. I travelled around Thailand for 10 weeks and for the price and location it is among the best to be had.
The best thing about Vanilla is the owners, Kem and Kat always look after you and point you in the direction of the best restaurants and bars. We stayed there 3 times over 10 weeks and whenever we came back we were treated like family!
Do yourself a favour and stay here you will not regret it!

I've stayed here with my family and, more recently, on a working trip. I love the hospitality of the owners, Kim and Kat. Their service, and those who work for them, is unbeatable. Excellent location. Clean. Wireless internet. A good value.

Nice guesthouse with fine rooms. Ask for a superior room with window. Good location, walking distance to centre of Chiang Mai.

Also nearby the evening bazar of Chiang Mai. It's quiet and well maintained. When you out going to do exhibitions please let the mr. Kem know. He will arrange everthing for you without paying extra charge. He even often will arange some discount for you for real.

We stayed at the Vanilla Place for 8 nights and we loved it.

Thank you Mr. Kem and Mrs. Kat for your great hospitality. We loved it!

Kind regards from Michael and Lilian from Holland.

This is my second stay at Vanilla Place and lets face facts, the reason most people return here is for the incredible service provided by the owners. Kem and Kat bend backwards to help guests and its exactly for this reason people return. Kem is always keen to offer assistance whether it be ordering travel or suggesting tours.

The guesthouse is minutes from the Night Market. There is a money exchange two doors up which offer a very reasonable rate (better than at the airport). Nice little restaurant across the road which serves great food. There is also a book shop next door where you can pick up a copy of Nancy Chandler's map.

The Sunday walking market is an approximate 15 minute walk from the guesthouse. There is also another market which is about a five minute walk. (The name of which is at a loss at present but I think it begins with an A). When you come out of the guesthouse, cross the road, keep to this side of the road and head left. You can't miss it. Its a lovely place to get hand made items, food and lovely fresh fruit drinks.

Fantastic guesthouse with owners who clearly pull out all stops to ensure their guests are well cared for. For that I wish to thank both Kem and Kat for yet another fantastic stay.

Pass on my thanks to Mr. Happy for my foot massage LMAO!!!!!

Room Tip: I always pick a room with AC

service: the service and assistance provided by mr kem is excellent and if not for this, the rating would've been a lot lower. mr kem is ever ready to offer advice where to go and what to do. patiently pointing out places and routes on the map. ever willing to offer assisntance on booking of tours and transport.

value: as a lot of reviewers have mentioned, the price is actually higher than a lot of other places offering the same standards. if not for the fact that mr kem offered to help arrange for our tours at a discount, i would've felt overcharged.

sleep quality: street noise can be pretty loud, especially bad during festivals (i went during loy kratong) where the thai people felt obliged to play loud music, set off fire crackers and then cheer loudly. even without festivities, motorcycles and horns can be pretty bad too. mattress is pretty low quality with squeky springs. pillow is almost non-existent. sheets and towels some times stained and torned.

room: kept pretty clean with CRT tv, air-conditioned, attached bathroom with hotwater shower. tv have limited english channels and some of them with weak reception. comes with basic free breakfast. don't expect much, basically make your own toast and drink with some simple fruits at the side.

I have never felt more at home in a hotel/guest house than I did with Kem, Kat & Happy the dog :) Kem treated us like family and made sure anything we needed was taken care of. The guest house is right in a prime location...2 minute walk from the night market...15min walk from the Sunday market. We decided to "splurge" and go with the Superior Room (at 1100 bht a night that is splurging for backpackers!) Our room was spacious and very clean..yes, we had a street front room and the traffic could get noisy but that's what we expected staying in that area. The breakfast that was included was perfect. Toast, lots of fresh fruit, coffee, tea, hot chocolate.....all ready every morning whether we got up at 7am or 10am. Kem helped us arrange all of our transportation and all of our tours while we were there and had lots of great recommendations if we had any questions at all. I will definitely be looking him up if I get the chance to get back to Chiang Mai again! Thank you so much Kem, family and staff for all the wonderful memories we now have of Chiang Mai!
