Le Meridien Chiang Mai
Ranked #20 of 394 Hotels in Chiang Mai
Reviewed 18 December 2011

We stayed here on SPG points after we got separated from our tour. Last-minute booking was difficult, since many of the nights we wanted to stay were sold out.

The rooms were nice (although not quite as nice as the Four Points in Bangkok), and the service was pretty good. The beds were over-the-top soft and comfortable, something hard to find in Thailand. The Le Meridien was a fantastic value when paid with points, especially after upgrading to a club room with breakfast and lounge access. The breakfast buffet in the restaurant (included with club access) was top-notch and had a lot of Thai food in addition to the typical stuff you'd find at a Le Meridien.

The Le Meridien had a perfect location right across the street from the night bazaar and within walking distance to the old city. It was tall, so you could see it from just about anywhere around.

My only real complaint is that this hotel didn't really "fit" with the rest of the city -- it was essentially an island of well-to-do tourists in a tower overlooking a fairly poor section of town. If you stay here, you won't necessarily feel the vibe of the night market or experience interactions with the locals. Instead, you'll live in a sanitized bubble towering above the city.

We stayed in the Le Meridien in November for 6 nights and we really enjoyed our stay.

The hotel location is as good as it gets in Chaing Mai, right on the night market and central for everything else. It is a large new modern hotel.

The hotel is beautiful and you will certainly not be roughing it, staying here.

The swimming pool is small but adequate with about 15 beds, the sun did not shine on the pool until after lunch when we were there in late November. The water is also cold in my opinion.

Chaing Mai is a great place to visit and is more laid back than Bangkok and cheaper, there are lots of places to see and visit.

I think it depends what you are looking for in a hotel, would depend if you enjoyed your stay here, if you are looking for small and boutique this is not the hotel for you, however if you are looking for a modern clean hotel in the centre of things it would be an ideal choice. There are plenty of places to eat and get massaged within a stones through of the hotel.

Try to get a deal with breakfast included as it is expensive to eat in the hotel. Wifi is also expensive but you can have 1 hour a day free, if you ask reception.

This is an exceptionally beautiful Hotel with all the comforts and professionality one can want. the hotel decor is amazing and staff are friendly and efficient. The rooms are spacious and the bath & shower very nice. This hotel is one of the few that offers a hairdryer with some good power in it so that was great to finally have that pleasure again.
The hotel is located in an ideal position. A few steps away from the night bazar and other markets on weekends.
We had a very very comfortable stay here, our room had a beautiful city view! Well worth staying here and paying for all the convenience and comfort.

Business Hotel with a large group orientation
Modern Western Lounge Design with a Thai touch
No need to fly 12- 18 hours to experience this type of hotel

Facilities are OK apart from:
Internet in room for which you have to pay which is unacceptable at this room price

Staff is efficient but impersonal
Restaurant is mostly expensive Europeanized Thai food of good quality
Room price too high for the experience

Would recommend this place for holding a conference
There are nicer places around at this price level that allow you to experience true Thai spontaneity and friendliness

Ask if you want anything in this hotel. Staff is willing but does not take initiative.

If you have gluten sensitivity, you need to pick this hotel when you visit Chiang Mai. Their breakfast spread is great but you must try their gluten free bread. They are awesome. The location is right at the night market. So all you have to do is to walk out and shop shop shop. The lobby lounge has great snacks while you use their free WiFi. We enjoyed our stay there very much.

Really nice hotel, newly refurbished rooms excellent bathroom, very convenient location and excellent buffet breakfast. Staff efficient and professional, like a business hotel. The Thai atmosphere is right outside the hotel, shops , markets & restaurants etc. Great swimming pool and gym. Free wifi in lobby and executive lounge. Executive lounge awesome. Very good value for money. Would go back.

Room Tip: The higher up you are the better the view of the cityscape

I agree with Jamesinthailand. I have just stayed there for 6 nights and just returned back to my country. I find that this hotel has been over rated. Location is fantastic. Room is nice and bed is very comfortable. But the service and friendliness of the staff has been over rated. The staff are good and efficient but that was expected standard for all international brand hotels. Overwelming? Definately not. Price..very expensive! 2 days' stay equivelent to an average chiangmai worker's monthly wage.
The buffet breakfast is good, but same varieties every day. First 2 days, I enjoyed the breakfast, remaining days..I'm kinda sick of it.

Room Tip: For the location and sleeping comfort, I will stay there again.
