“Best view of Doi Suthep”
Reviewed 24 July 2014

We stayed in this beautiful hotel for four nights and never regretted it! We had the best of Doi Suthep from our hotel room! It also has a pool that offers the same perfect view of Doi Suthep. The night markets are just outside the hotel. Besides you have the usual common fast food - McDonalds, Burger King, Subway, Starbucks are out the hotel. We were also able to walk to the supermarket - walking about 15 mins away.

While the hotel staff were mostly helpful, I was also upset when one of the front desk staff did not bother to contact me when our local travel agent left me a note. This was especially so when it caused a misunderstanding. I was only given the note after I returned from the tour and approached the front desk. The envelope was obviously still lying there. The staff simply said they do not know what they had to do. I am perplexed by this - if the hotel staff does not contact the guest that they have an envelope for them, how else would they know? Nevertheless, the level of English of hotel staff needs to be improved to better serve its guests.

Room Tip: Pay a little more for the mountain view. It is worth it!

You book a suite at Le Meridien hotel in Chiang Mai for 3 nights and let her enjoy the luxury this hotel can offer. It is some of the best spend money for a long time and the staff is sooo nice and friendly. It was everything and a bit more than I had hoped for.

We moved to the Meridian 1 night after booking into the Mae Ping. For the $60 a night more there is an entire world of difference! The breakfast nothing short of amazing and the bed terrific. The room & hotel are like new and in superior condition. Great place to stay. Staff was English speaking & very helpful. A+++

My husband and I stayed her in November 2013 for 5 days on our honeymoon. We went for the Loi Krathong festival and it was one of the most amazing experiences of our life, and we couldn't have had a better hotel. It's beautiful and high end and in close walking distance to all the attractions such as the night market which starts basically at the base of the hotel and many of the major Wats are also in close walking distance. The staff was extremely hospitable and we were even upgraded upon our arrival. We usually ventured outside the hotel for breakfast to save some money but we enjoyed a very classy dinner one night and enjoyed lunch by the pool overlooking the mountains. I highly recommend this hotel for anyone looking for luxury while staying close to the center of chiang mai.

Read many reviews before I book this hotel. There are not many international hotels in the heart of the city. Opted for Le Meridien and it's one of the newest you can go for. Just down the road from Shangri-la hotel (this looks much older from the outside). There are a few local brand hotels around the vicinity.

Some pros and cons:

Pros
-Hotel is located right in the middle of the night markets which sells pretty much the same thing from stall to stall. You will find an abundant of local Thai handicrafts for sale.
-Overall hotel staff are friendly. Can across a gentleman from the Conceirge deparment by the name of Khun Chairat. He's fantastic! Very friendly, helpful and prompt with all your needs. He would go an extra mile to ensure you receive the best. Great job!
-Hotel offers many local day tours. They have a catalogue for you to choose from and they will book on your behalf. As Chiangmai is an inland city, no beaches to explore. Many temples and zoo for you to visit.
-Hotel has a pool which caters for the little one. It's located on the 4th floor. The paddling pool for the kiddies is only 0.5m deep and adjoining pool is around 1.35m deep. Great relaxing place just for the little one to relax.
-Hotel has a grand lobby and often filled with patrons surfing the net as not all rooms offer complimentary in room internet. Urban rooms and above will give you access to free in room wifi.
-Food at 'Latest Receipe' is great. We had a great dinner on our first night and it was very delicious.
-The urban room is an oversized room and has a long day bed/sofa. The mountain views is just spectacular.
-Hotel is only located 15mins from CNX International Airport.

Cons:
-Not much action around the hotel during the day as it will only be 'alive' at night. Don't expect too much around the area during the day.
-I found that the area the hotel is in is the rather 'rundown' part of the city. Many shops were empty even in the plazas in the area. You have a couple of fast food chains around the hotel (McDonalds, Burger King, Pizza Hut, Starbucks) and Boots pharmacy.
-The hot and cold water in the room is not very consistent. The water temperature will either drop or rise in a matter of seconds. Need to exercise care when you try to bath/shower your little ones as they could be scalded easily.
-I found the air con and exhaust fan in the toilet is rather noisy. You could really feel the difference if both of them are off.
-Most Taxis in Chiangmai do not go by meter which is something I don't quite like. Make sure you bargain before you hop in or get the hotel to get one for you and making sure you have agreed on the price.

Overall we had a reasonable good stay at this hotel. Chiangmai is not a very buzzing and alive city. If you are looking for a city less busy like Bangkok and Phuket, this is the place for you.

Room Tip: Pay a little more for an Urban room or above as this gives you free in room wifi.

I loved this hotel for the location of the night market. At night we walked directly out of the hotel to the colorful market, great dining was within walking distance, and when we decided to travel in the evenings, tuk tuks were right outside of the hotel. It was a great way to experience the tuk tuks, and if you offer and negotiate a rate with the drivers before taking off-- they'll take you quickly to wherever you want. So much fun!

Being a platinum member for a few years now, I've been fortunate to have traveled to verify places around the world. When i pre book with SPG I know I'll be expecting the usual SPG service. Free suite upgrade, exceptional services, etc.....

I have to make a special mention to the staff at the Le Meridien, Chiang mai, thailand.

Assistant manager Ms. Rasraphas and her club level personel: ms. Nungrutthai, ms. Janyalak and ms. Tressukon. They were all so kind to my 95 year old mother, even offered her a gift to make her feel right at home there.

I also have to mention the remaining club staff from the chef to the cleaning/maid crew. Exceptional and I highly recommend staying there if ever visiting Chain Mai.
Sincerely,
Platinum member
Alfred
