Just enjoyed 6 nights at Le Meridien in Chiang Mai. This truly is a five star hotel, beautifully appointed, comfortable bed, hot luxuriant shower, WiFi that worked, and a great breakfast buffet. Hard to fault. The staff were extremely helpful, friendly and always willing to offer advice or book a cab for us. Great part is the location - step out of the front door, turn left and in 75m or so, you are in the middle of the the night markets which are on every evening. On Sunday evenings there is also a "Walking Market" in the main street of the walled city featuring all the handicrafts of the area - not to be missed and just 5 minutes away in a tuk tuk. The hotel is surrounded by restaurants and places where a good massage is available for a reasonable price. I'll be back.
