“Very disappointing experience”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 July 2013

For Thai standards hospitality was really bad. When passing the reception staff did not even say hello or move their eyes away from their computer. Break fast was very basic like you would expect it at a 1 or 2 star hotel. Considering that this is a 4 star hotel is is far below average. Also the noise due to the nearby airport was pretty bad.

The hotel is not close to the old city but it's in an interesting area with some good bars, restaurants, cafes and some great shops.
The hotel is not great value and you can do much better in Chiang Mai. The hotel complex feels very cramped with the buildings right on the edge of the pool and there's no sun in the pool area because of the buildings.
The rooms are okay as they are spacious and they have comfortable beds but it does not feel very private as you can see into other rooms and they can see you.
The staff are not very helpful and no information was given about the hotel or area when we checked in. The spelling of Yantarasiri changed in printed material and it got confusing when trying to use the wifi as Yantarasiri was in the password. The wifi connection was not great.
The restaurant was not open when advertised and the breakfast was average.
We checked out after two nights and discovered you can do much better in Chiang Mai.

The hotel looked cozy and lovely, surrounding with natural plants. The room is spacious and the bathroom design is very nice as well. It is a quiet and relaxing place for retreat. It is not near to the central area but there is a number of transportation is available, convenient enough to the town area.

The staff is friendly and able to provide some suitable suggestion to travel around. However, the worst part is the swimming pool. It looked very dirty, none of us daring to swim here. :(

Really lovely hotel in Chiang Mai i particularly like the area - near the university so lots of cool bars and eateries around. The staff at the hotel are lovely - howver the only negative is that the pool is shaded after around 1pm!

A wonderful hotel if you wish to relax and unwind. A 15 minute ride to downtown by taxi. Tranquility and a slow pace make this a nice hotel to get away from the hustle and bustle of Bangkok. The staff was very friendly and we had lunch once and the food was very nice.

We've stayed in this hotel for two hours than checked out. The location is a bit far from the Chiang Mai city centre but not bad. When we've arrived we did not believe our eyes how run down the hotel is. Walls cracked, dirty spider webs everywhere reception very rustic but the whole place feels dusty. Ok let's see the room. The receptionist who was very helpful escorted us to a second floor room. That supposed to be the deluxe room. Well I tell you there was nothing deluxe about that room it was very dirty, dusty bed linen not fresh, not even ironed. Than the shock of the bathroom came OMG! Everything yellow, limescale on all surface that can or ever became in contact with water. The bathtub was made of some sort of clay painted white prob 10 years ago, now full of black hand/foot marks. So we did not take that room. Second room is a bit better, but still the same hygiene problems. So we've decided to check out and book a different hotel. The staff was very apologetic and explained they have a new management and they understand our decision. We were lucky to have our booking via a major Booking company who immediately contacted the hotel manager as well and promised to take care of cancellation of Yantarasiri Resort. We were told there will be no cancellation fees but I have not got my Credit card bill yet.
So I'd suggest you avoid this Hotel unless you like rustic village type accommodation where you start with your own cleaning... all this for the price of a medium range hotel. We've moved to the Holiday Inn... Superb!!!

Room Tip: Tip to chose a good room? Well go to another Hotel that is my best tip.

Overall an 'ok' experience. The hotel is located outside of city center (west) in Nimmanheiman, a hip young area but far from the city's main attractions. Good option if taking day trips out of the city. The room is large but a bit dusty and worn out. Overlooks a beautiful courtyard, and has an authentic feel. The staff is not too friendly and doesnt speak English well. Breakfast is included but not so good: limited selection and not well-kept. For the price we expected a bit more.
