“fantastic value in a great location”
Reviewed 10 September 2010

stayed here for 4 nights in total and found it to be in a good location with friendly staff and a great rate of only 330 baht per night for a twin room with air conditioning, satellite tv, free wi fi and a daily room cleaning service. what more could you ask for when you're trekking around all day. also staff kind enough to let us leave our luggage there overnight when we went on a trip. great hotel for anyone on a budget!

Stayed at the New Mitrapap for 7 nights after an Internet find. Price at 330 Baht a night with air conditioning.

We were allocated a twin room on the 4th floor after depositing a 500 Baht deposit on the room key / remotes for the room. The reception was nice and clean and staff were friendly enough. On getting out of the hotel lift we thought we had entered a complete different building.....namely a prison! The floor is split with rooms running down either side.

We then entered our room which contained two single beds, a tv with cable, a mini fridge which was stocked with 2 free bottles of water and refilled daily, a wardrobe/table and one chair. Towels were there and a warm shower was provided. The room was dated and in need of a refurb in that the security locks on the door are inadequate and the walls could do with a lick of paint.

The rooms were cleaned daily and fresh towels provided. Wifi worked within the room occasionally.
The breakfast was coffee and toast..............which was free but was awful!

The location was ok, near the night market and Tai Pae Gate.
Great for people on a budget or the backpacker.......but if its your vacation stay in a nice boutique hotel!

New Mitrapap was just great. You pay 330 Bath for a double room with ensuite shower/toilet, aircon, TV and fridge. There is a roomservice everyday and the staff is really friendly and helpful. The location of the hotel is not directly in the citycenter, but everything is in walking distance, the nightbaazar is just around the corner. There is free wifi in the room and toast, coffee and tea in the morning are for free.

This hotel is in the small Chinatown district of Chiang Mai. Rooms with fans start at 230BHT and those with AC are at 330BHT. Double-bed rooms are at 450BHT. Linen is changed every day. This 4-storeyed hotel ( G+3) has about 90 odd rooms. All rooms are spartan. They have TV, Functional hot showers and nice enough beds, a Closet, a table, a couple of chairs etc. Rooms could use a coat of fresh paint, but are otherwise OK. Linen and towels get changed daily. The staff is very diligent and extremely sincere and honest. No fear of anything getting stolen. Laundrry service is good, and cliothes are returnerd the same evening if given by 9.00AM in the morning at the reception.

Although they do not say so explicitly, it comes as a pleasant surprise for the budget traveller that for breakfast they give fresh , sliced bread that you can toast on a gas toaster. Margarine and sticky orange marmalade is also given. You can have as much as you like. You can wash this down with instant Coffee or drinking chocolate (pre-mix)that is also available. What more freebies could you expect?

The main Wororot market is just 4-5 minutes walking distance away. Shop here for native condiments and spices, pistachios & cashews, cheap cosmetics and clothes etc. The famous Thaepe gate is about 8-9n minutes walking distance away, and the Chiang Mai Night Bazaar on Chang Klan road too is about 9-10 minutes walking distance away. At leasy 5-6 Wats ( Buddhist Temples) are within 8-4-10 minutes of walking distance.

All in all, for a budget traveller, a good hotel. Delivers the basic expectations.

They will collect 500 BHT as Safe Deposit when you check-in. This is to ensure you do not break or damage the AC & TV remotes or lose the key !

Will defeinitely stay again....Advisable to book well in advance, as it is full of travellers from Thailand itself, and those from Korea, Japan, Europe and the US/ Canada etc.

I stayed here for 5 days while visiting Chiang Mai. I wasn't expecting much based on the price, but the rooms where great. Cleaned daily, big enough for my solo trips and still big enough once my brother joined me. The free wi-fi was great as there are multiple routers. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. The location wasn't too close to the old town, but very close to China town which was nice for food, drink and snacks. I also really appreciated that they did not push the treks or travel options that they offered. It rained heavily one night which caused my AC to leak. I called down to the front desk to ask for a towel, not expecting them to actually fix the problem but they sent a repairman right up and he took care of the leak within 20 minutes. It was a great place for the money. I would definitely recommend the hotel.

The New Mitrapap Hotel was more like a guesthouse than hotel. However, it was quite comfortable, clean, very cheap and the staff were friendly. We could walk to Wororat Markets and the night markets, also the weekend market, so it was very convenient. Toast and coffee are available in the foyer in the morning and there is a very good restaurant across the road but it is not open for dinner.
