First of all, this review is for the restaurant/ bar bit of the Queen Victoria, not the guesthouse bit. I haven't stayed in the guesthouse bit so it would hardly be reasonable for me to comment on it. I have been to the restaurant/ bar bit a few times though. Gone are the stupid sexist/ racist cartoons in the men's toilet, the eating area's been spruced up a lot and looks a little more like a restaurant in Chiangmai instead of a fake British pub in Tokyo and they seem to be a little more interested in making some money out of the place as opposed to just opening and closing the kitchen or whatever whenever they feel like it.

Their food's pretty decent- although the menu is all over the place and they don't really seem to have about half the things on it. The Thai food is cheap and tasty but I haven't had any Western food (I don't see the point really) so I have no opinion on that. Drinks won't hurt your wallet and although the street noise is a little loud, that's not their fault. It's a nice, more or less non-touristy place (it's by the North Gate as opposed to Backpacker Row) and not a bad place for a lingering drink on a sunny Chiangmai afternoon.

I gather this place (Chiang Mai location, not Pattaya) has passed through a few hands over the last several years. I suspect the next hands it may pass through will be those of whatever bank has lent the latest owner money because it looks a lot like it's on its last legs. While the food's not bad and the beer's cheap, there's just something lacking here. Food served only until six, although with a sigh, they'll go past that and they stick to the "no alcohol between 2pm and 5pm" rule so that's a drag. Feels like whoever owns it now (possibly some Swiss guy?) bought it on a whim without realizing that he needs to put the effort in. The cartoons in the men's room are tasteless at best, offensive at worst. Imagine have a decent, cheap meal, going to the bog, and seeing 3 dozen cartoons lampooning Thai prostitutes? In a city with as many dining options as Chiangmai, why would you need to give a place like this the benefit of the doubt? They could do so, so much better.

If your going to Bangkok, make sure you go to this great restaurant. When you walk in your greeted by friendly staff. The interior is almost identical to a British Pub. Big bar in the middle, dark wooden furniture, wooden ceilings and booths u can sit in to have your meal.

The have a good variety of food, British, some Thai, Italian and western food. I had the pork in red curry and rice. My sister and daughter had the spagetti bolognese it was yum and my fiance had the queen victoria beef burger, chips and salad it came out on the huge plate. They have cottage pies, steak and onion pies, black pudding etc. the deserts were awesome as well.

The price for all of us including starters, main meal desert and drinks (4) of us came to 2400 baht good food for a small price.

This was our second time we have dined here and we will come back again and again. Try and visit u wont be disappointed. CHEERS!!!!

We stayed there for three nights and it was probably one of the best deals we did in 3 weeks thailand in terms of value for money. Very clear and comfortable rooms and only a few minutes walk to the city center! Very friendly owner and staff and great music at the bar in the evening! We will come back!
