Recommended length of visit: 1-2 hours
Owner description: Leave from the jetty at Wat Chai Mongkol and travel north out of the city. The river soon shows its true rural identity as city bridges pass from view and are replaced by scenes of wide water stretching from green tree-lined bank to bank. Kids play, daring each other to swing through an old motor tyre and plunge into the cool river below.Smiles,Yells,And the boat chugs on to reach its destination point, the "Thai Farmer's house "Agriculture remains Thailand's largest source of income and here the vistor can discover the basic elements-rice local herbs, fruits,fishing-all thriving in a chemical-free environment.

“You end up in a Buddhish cemetary”
Reviewed 31 March 2014

When our group arrived at the river for the ride. We were shock at how dirty the river was. There were chicken feather. Maybe there's a slaughter area near by. River smell stinky. We were a group of 9. And there are 2 table, a group of 2 and a group of 3. To add up a total of 14 excluding the server and the driver. There's only 3 floats on the ceiling of the boat. We had diner while cruising. The foods average. Stirred fried vegetable, sweet and sour fish, spring rolls, tom yang soup and fruits. Only the soup pass our taste. Not recommended. Not safe and dirty.

“Sedate, Informative River trip”
Reviewed 21 March 2014

This cruise took us north at a very sedate pace with very clear English commentary from the one person crew on this dragon boat. We travelled for about an hour before being invited to disembark to have a look round a small subsistence garden which grew local produce for its restaurant. It was very interesting and cooler in the shade of the greenery. We then received fruit and a drink before returning back into Chiang Mai by the same route? It was very inexpensive and an enjoyable trip which I would recommend, if only for the different view point it gives the visitor to this exciting city.

“Get out of the busy city on a pleasant boat tour”
Reviewed 11 March 2014

Slow gliding on the ping mae river at a peaceful rythm. Not too crowded boats, in an more or less comfortable wooden canoo. Only getting in and out was a bit difficult, due to a low water level of the river.
Most pleasant stop at a Thaï herb garden where some animals are also kept and where they serve a hughe plate of delicious fresh fruit. Altogether a beautiful trip to the green outskirts of Chiang mai which unfortunately only lasted 2 hours. Highly recommandable even for seasick people, as it really goes smooth.

“Low-key, pleasant outing”
Reviewed 27 February 2014

This was a pleasant daytime boat ride up the river, cool and shaded and low-key. We bought tickets at the pier half an hour ahead of time for 450 baht each; boats leave hourly. The scenery was not fascinating or stunning; the commentary was along the lines of "On the right is a new Thai restaurant" and "The tall building on the left is condominiums." About the most exciting sight was guys fishing all along the way. But still, for a couple of hours, it was pleasant, and the ride at least went 5 miles upstream to give you a glimpse outside the heart of Chiang Mai (for those of you without the time or inclination to do treks or other such outings). The boat turns around and stops at a "farmer's house," which sounded completely uninteresting to me, but was actually kind of nice. Herbs and other plants were marked with labels in Thai and English; there were rabbit hutches and a couple of boars in a pen; and passengers got a snack of pineapple, watermelon and juice (plus a bathroom break, if needed). I think the full time for this was 2 or 2.5 hours.

“Dinner cruise”
Reviewed 20 February 2014

We were not wowed by the dinner cruise. There was no choice of menu, only a broth soup, sweet and sour fish, sautéed vegetables and fruit- not great if you don't like fish. There were only two couples that evening so not much atmosphere. The server was very pleasant and attentive but I wouldn't recommend this cruise. While we were eating dinner at the Riverside Bar and Restaurant, we noticed they also offer a dinner cruise. We wish we had booked with them since it seemed like there was choice of menu and a more animated atmosphere.
