“Chiang Mai review”
Reviewed 3 March 2013

As stated in my review of All in 1 guest house, this was not a place I booked to stay in but was arranged for me. The manager Matthieu I found to be a great guy and very helpful. I changed rooms to an a/c room with a safety box. The price was cheaper at 550 Baht per night. No cards accepted though. The only other staff I had any contact with was the French-speaking Thai manageress who seemed to to take a dislike to me from day one and was rather rude in her dealings with me. I found this to be downright unprofessional. As a result, they were very reluctant to provide extra towels when requested. Booked a tour with them and I'm sure it was overpriced. The same with their recommended taxi services. The location was excellent as it was near the end of the Soi and its junction with the main road which was the edge of the old city. Bars and transport were available on the main road also. Reception only available till 8pm was another negative point. I also had a problem with the sink not draining properly. Matthieu tried to resolve this to no avail. Couldn't really change room as this was the only room of its kind on the ground floor. Overall would not recommend this unless the above issues don't bother you. Does have wifi now though.

Very good hotel, only stayed one night because of trekking in chiang mai.well worth looking out.Breakfast is the only thing i could critisice. would certainly go again.lovely furniture ,ambiance and quiet. Left the bags whilst going on a trek.returned hot and dirty, and we were allowed to use a shower, even though we were'nt staying at the guest house anymore.

Staying at The Nest feels like staying in a friend's comfortable, Thai-decorated home. In fact, there are framed awards and family photos on the walls. The Nest is located in a very large, 3-storey town home next to and across from other town homes on a quiet, residential side street (soi) you wouldn't guess is located just a short walk from a shopping mall. Although the old city is a 15-20 minute walk away, there are plenty of good restaurants, bars, shops and spas just around the corner. A fabulous Thai cooking school, Basil Cookery, is just steps across the street and costs about $35 for an all-day course (You will leave there feeling fat and happy after all the yummy food you make).

Inside The Nest, there's a reception area, a living room with a TV, two dining tables, a bar with complimentary water, coffee and tea and 12 nicely decorated, comfortable guest rooms. Our lovely, en suite room was on the third floor with only one other room which I think might be part of the apartment where Pam, the friendly, English-speaking owner lives. In addition to great air conditioning and a fan, our en suite, wood-floored room contained two full beds (which we pushed together), a desk, a wardrobe, a side table, a small safe and a TV. Room service came every day and made the beds and provided clean towels. The free WiFi worked well in the room.

Every day, the complimentary breakfast was a buffet of eggs, toast, various fruit, yogurt, sausage, pastries, cereal and even savory Thai breakfast staples. We are thankful to the staff for providing a complimentary ride in their SUV to the Chiang Mai airport.

Our room cost about $40 a night. Laundry is about $1.35 a kilo for wash and dry.

We spent a week at the Nest in December 2012 including New Year and would highly recommend it for those looking for something more personal. It's the only guest house on a quiet Soi a couple of minutes walk from Central Plaza where there'a a great food market (including a night Market out the front at weekends), and a 10 minute walk from the Nimmanhaemin Road area which has lots of bars, coffee shops and independent shops. You can get into the old city easily by tuk tuk or taxi. We rented a scooter for a week and were always happy to get back to the neighbourhood.
We stayed in a suite with a double bed and 2 singles which was quiet and spotlessly clean. The
feel of the guesthouse is like staying in a family home with lots of family photos on the walls. It's full of beautiful furniture, paintings, fabrics and ornaments. Breakfast is in a communal dining room and a good opportunity to meet other guests and find out more about what is happening in Chiang Mai.
The staff at the Nest could not do enough for us and made a real fuss of our 7 year old who
loved it the most of all the places we stayed in Thailand. They dropped us off at the airport when we left.
The only downside for me was the lack of an outside space to sit as they've made the old courtyard into a sitting room. However, we were out every night anyway and our suite was lovely and comfortable for relaxing in. I will definitely be returning and wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Nest.

Room Tip: The Suites are perfect for families.

Stayed at the Nest for 10 days on a recent trip to Chiang Mai and loved it. It is located right next to a shopping mall and within a couple of blocks of a flurry of boutiques, restaurants, bars and bakeries that seems to be more of a local part of town. The Nest is located in a quiet residential neighborhood and I thought it was the perfect oasis from spending days in bustling part of Ping River and the Old City. Ping River and the Old City/Night Bazaars and market areas were easily accessible via songtheow or tuk tuk for cheap and with a 10 min drive. Just walk a block to the main road and there were plenty of transport options.

Breakfast is served every morning and it was extensive. Fresh fruit, toast, eggs, bacon, coffee/tea (instant), pastries and other things too that I am not sure what it was, but it was good.

The rooms were comfortable, clean and really nice. The young man that works the front desk (I don't want to butcher his name) was awesome and so very helpful. I felt like he was an old friend by the end of the trip and he was a huge help with countless things.

They also picked us up from the airport, which was a great relief after arriving late at night and after 30 hours of travel to get there.

I would definitely stay here again, by the end of the trip, the gracious staff had made it feel like a home away from home

Room Tip: We were upgraded to the deluxe room on the top floor, two twin beds, but the best was having a balco...

This B&B is in a Thai house, and you leave your shoes outside. We were upgraded to the suite so had plenty of room, with a comfortable bed and everything very clean. The staff were charming and always willing to help. The Nest is not in the centre, but we liked the location because it was quiet, very near a large very well-stocked supermarket in a shopping mall and also within an easy walk to Nimmanhemin Road with its many bars and restaurants and the excellent coffee shop Ristr8to. There was a reasonable breakfast served in the attractively decorated communal area and it was good to meet and exchange notes with other guests.

We stayed at The Nest a couple of years ago and it was the best place we stayed in Thailand. The charming bungalow we had was comfortable and clean. The food was amazing! Who would have thought wonderful french food and wine could be had in northern, rural Thailand.
