Free breakfast was rice porridge with either chicken or vegetables. Condiments of your choice vary from traditional sauces and spices. Brewed coffee or instant chocolate drink to pair. Great start for a Thai morning.

Very accomodating staff! They can phone a taxi for you upon request (no charge, more convenient), or just head off to the main road and hail one.

Located in the outer rim of the city. PROS: Not much traffic noise. Especially since the hotel is at the back of the property away from the road. CONS: From the city center at past 8pm at night, red taxis (songthaew) charge AT LEAST 200 Baht (very pricey!), some even refused to take me there because there usually isn't a return passenger from the hotel back to the city center.

Other reviewers (raytaximan, budra, and KhunPierre) gave comprehensive and accurate reviews of the hotel, but during my stay (Feb 14-16, 2014) WIFI was free and fairly stable inside my room, stable enough for a Skype video call back home for over an hour.

I just wish I had a friend to share the room with, and to split the taxi fare with. Hehe!

This very Thai hotel, was very adequate for our 9 day stay, ending our "flashpacking tour of north Thailand, we only booked in for 2 nights, intending to move to an hotel inside the city walls, but as we found the prices in town,1800/2500 bht. per night ( £36/£50),
We decided to stay put for the 490 bht a night we were paying £9.00. the staff were excellent,
good size room, big fridge so we done our own self catering, the hotel caters mainly for Thai/Chinese/Vietnam/ rice soup for breakfast , but also ham & eggs on toast if required.
good size pool on site, You can walk to the city walls of Chiang Mia in 50 mins ,or taxi 200 bht
we also walked to the Chiang Mia Zoo ,good value entrance fee 150 bht allow 1 hr to walk there.
although the hotel needs tidying up in places it is comfortable & friendly, I would certainly recommend this hotel ,having travelled round the world I have stayed in worst hotels for a lot more money,

Room Tip: if you stay on the front or the back keep your windows closed at night. Front you have a main road w...

This is a slightly odd hotel. It's very quaint. The lobby and halls are decorated not only with Thai art and small shrines, but also with old motorcycles, telephones, and typewriters. And it's very Thai: we were the only foreigners in the hotel for the first two days of our stay. But it's not super efficient. We arrived late at night and the two young men at reception could find no record of our reservation. Even when I showed them the confirmation email they were confused and it was only through some insistence that we were able to get our rooms. In part this may have been a language problem. The day staff have better English skills than the night staff.

A friend of mine explained that the hotel is used primarily by parents who come to visit their children who are attending the local universities. Chiang Mai is something of an education hub.

The hotel is showing a bit of wear, but my room was large and clean, though spartan. The lighting was dim and the TV remote did not work. There was a good sized mini-fridge with very reasonably priced drinks in it (60 baht for a beer = $2 Cdn). The bathroom was dimly lit but fine: no tub, just a shower. There's one tap on the sink set to tepid. The air conditioning unit was great. The bed was very firm, but I happen to like that.

The hotel has a small gym and a not-much-used outdoor swimming pool. There's also a barber shop.

The hotel is on a highway. It takes about 10 minutes to walk to a commercial area and about 45 minutes to walk to the old city. There is a restaurant across the highway from the hotel (it's good) and a nightclub up the street. There are some roadside restaurants south of the hotel. The rest is gas stations, a BBQ supply store, some garages, that sort of thing. There are several 7-11s close by for basics but you're better off to walk north to Suthep Road and turn right or left: lots of shops and restaurants that are priced for the university students. If you turn right you immediately hit a small Tescos. Word to the wise: just before you get to Suthep, turn right into the Ton Payom produce market. A great place to shop for fruit, deep-fried chicken heads, and the best spicy sausages.

The hotel is very close to the airport. I could see the runways from my window. This means that the occasional plane roars overhead. Luckily it's not a busy airport.

Note -- to get anywhere on foot you have to walk along the side of the highway. It's not always smooth going, so it might be a problem for people with mobility issues.

The wifi in the hotel is adequate but a bit inconsistent. It costs 100 baht a day and you have to buy it each day from the front desk. The signal was much better in the lobby than in my room (on the 4th floor). There is a coffee shop/bar in the lobby but it hardly ever seems to be open. They do make an ok espresso if you can catch them.

The big plus, the super big plus, of the hotel is that it is mega-reasonable, nay, crazy cheap. When I stayed it was 620 baht a night which included Thai-style breakfast. That,'s, like, $20 Cdn. Wow. For that price, I can put up with spartan. For the price, I love spartan. It's also off the tourist beat, aso if you want to mingle with the Thai, this is the place.

This hotel has indeed a good first feel! On the plus side the rooms are extremely spacious and the entrance hall has a good feel. Staff speak good English, and the hotel appears easily accessible in Chiang Mai, anyway you can get easy transport in these places. Internet wifi is available (charge of 100 bhats) and there are computers in the lobby for public use. On the minus side, the room may feel like lacking in decor, ours was a large, "seventies like" polished concrete floor and table, but again, good feel. Shower facility was fine for this category of hotel, however could have done with a bit more cleanliness, I guess the concrete surface is unforgiving in this domain. Breakfast was egg fried rice and coffee, there were no obvious alternatives. Overall offering value for money.

Room Tip: For a quiet night, request a room as high as possible or not facing the main road.

I can't believe nobody has written about the Sirinart Garden hotel in Chiang Mai, this place is a real gem. My room was only 590 anight but it had the feel of a much more expensive place. It's a very quiet hotel, or at least my room was, best nights x2 sleep in ages. I recommend travelling to Chiang mai by motorbike the mountain roads and scenary is just magic.
