“made my stay in Chiang Mai worth it”
Reviewed 8 January 2011

We only stayed 2 nights in Chiang Mai, but we decided to choose this hotel due to their good reviews and I dont regret it. The staff is delightful, very service oriented and everyone from the receptionist to the lady boss, were very helpful (I remember Kukuan :)). Rooms are beautifully decorated and very Thai style. Hotel is 10mns tuk tuk from night bazaar but who cares? The Old City is as nice and as lovely. I really liked the hotel (having travelled 2 weeks+ in Thailand), I was very happy to have stayed at this wonderful hotel...It is a boutique hotel so it is very much catered for couples or small families, so dont expect a big chain hotel but again its worth it!

We stayed at the Sirilanna during one of the main festivals in Chiang Mai. We stayed in the business room - a spaceous and well decorated room on the top floor of the hotel. The hotel has good facilities, including a very nice pool and PC room / library. The restaurant has a small menu, but the quality was very good. Breakfast was very limited (for non meat eaters) and became a bit boring towards the end of our stay.
The room had a nice balcony with a wooden bench integrated with the barrier. For our two year old boy that was a serious hazard, potentially climbing on the bench and going over the edge. Other issue was the enormous number of mosquitos in the room. Whatever we did, we could not minimise their presence - made us look like we had chicken pox.
The staff was extremely friendly and helpfull and went out of their way to make us feel at home. Lack of professionalism was more then compensated by enthusiasm and dedication.
We loved Chiang Mai - it was great to stay in a hotel within the walls of the old city and be able to walk almost to all locations or take an easy ride in a tuktuk. The noise of the traffic (especially loud motorbikes, and horn-happy tuktuk's and bikes) was sometimes irritating, especially at night due to poor sound insulation from the hotel to the outside, but was compensated by the character and atmosphere of being in the centre.
Overall a nice hotel, bit expensive to Thai standards, with enthusiastic and helpfull staff, but with some issues.

The hotel is brilliantly located inside the walled city. The staff were brilliant, friendly and professional. All this does come at a cost but we'd go back again in a heartbeat.

Stayed at the Sirilanna twice in November, once at the beginning of our trip and for 2 nights at the end. What a perfect start and finish to my first visit to Thailand. Everything about the Sirilanna was perfect, from the beautiful pool for a swim first thing in the morning, to the fantastic bedrooms, I've not slept so well in years. All staff were an absolute delight and went over and above to make us feel so welcome. If only that level of customer service existed in the UK. I feel 100% sure that if I visit Chiang Mai again the Sirilanna will be the place I'll stay. I miss it! About 6 minutes from the airport too - but I'd travel to get there if it was further!.

When I told my partner to choose Sirilanna, it was mainly because of the nice facilities that I saw on the Internet. Thankfully, we were not deceived by photos. They really had awesome facilities despite being a very small hotel. It's actually very small and they did not have a lot of guests that we felt it was like our house. The bed is amazing and the most comfortable bed that we had in our whole stay in Thailand (we stayed in 3 major areas in Thailand and slept in 4 hotels). The interior of the room is classic Lanna design but it can be seen that it has been well thought of and made with really good materials. The pieces of furniture that they had were lovely. And despite being just a boutique hotel, their rooms (we had the smallest one in their list) were very spacey--even the bathroom which is a great great plus!

We rented a car and the only downside that we noticed is that it is very hard to find the hotel through car when you are going there for the first time. Since it is located in the Old City of Chiang Mai, there are so many roads and alleys around it. The difficulty of finding it could also be attributed to the lack of proper street signs in Chiang Mai that are written in English. People in the community were always willing to help us tourists look for it but because of their very limited English, it always failed. We were able to find the hotel after 2 hours--by accident! After that though, we remembered how to go there and brought a good map with us and everything became alright.

The staff really took care of us well. We were actually spoiled by the staff. No signs of complaining or forced work in the eyes of those staff members. They were really very happy to have us there and they did their best to take care of our needs.

There are a couple of eating places near the hotel. Personally, I would not recommend the place called "Rose Garden" because it's all into deceiving ads. My partner and I also got diarrhea after eating there a couple of times. Food quality isn't great as well. We would recommend the Italian place across the road. There are a lot of massage places in the community too that can be reached through walking distance!

They have limited breakfast choices. They don't have a buffet since they have very few guests all the time. I would recommend their chicken fried rice. It's the best fried rice I have tasted in Thailand. :)

My husband, 8 year-old and I recently stayed at the Sirilanna and could not have been more impressed. The moment we were picked up from the hotel in the air-conditioned van, we knew the experience was going to be special. We had an early flight from Bangkok and arrived in Chiang Mai at 8:30 am. I asked for an early check in and it was absolutely no problem. We arrived to cool drinks in the gorgeous, wood-filled reception area. Our 2nd floor room was beautifully decorated, large enough for the three of us and had a beautiful view of the pool grounds. Breakfast was included in the room charge and we had a choice of a Western or Asian selections along with yummy coffee, fruit and toast.

The quiet location is within the old walls of the city. Walking to the Taephae Gate was simple - only about 10 minutes. The Sunday Night Walking Market (a must) is right down the street and the Wat Chedi Luang (where the Monk Chat is) and several other temples are within walking distance (5-10 minutes). Riverside and the Night Bazzar are a 10-minute tuk tuk ride away.

Nothing was a problem for this 15-room gem of a hotel. The Sirilanna provided the best
customer service we have experienced in a long time and convinced this family there is absolutely no reason to stay in a big-box hotel again. Ever.

From the minute we where picked up from the airport in an air conditioned luxury vehicle, we had a great feeling about this place.
At 08.30 am we where then checked into our fantastic pool view room. The room we picked was on the ground floor and had a huge picture window. The room was furnished with hand carved furniture and a bed dig enough for a king. The bathroom had the largest round spa bath we have ever had the opportunity to bath in. There was also a separate rain shower. The staff where considerate and always willing to help in any way possible.
On one occasion we asked about the best way to visit the tigers, the receptionist organized the hotel transport and driver and herself to take us and return for a very modest price.
We would return here in the future and recommend this hotel.
