The owners of this establishment go way back in Chiang Mai history. Unfortunately, on our visit, it didn't live up to recommendations. The staff did their job with minimal interest and nary a smile. The food was average. I've tasted better in a food market in New Delhi.

Found this place by accident and couldn't be happier. The egg fried rice with chicken was absolutely delicious and the spaghetti with seafood was cooked to perfection too.

Hinlay is one of the few curry restaurants in Chiang Mai that has such a pleasant setting. It used to be an outside restaurant adjacent to a large garden, but is now enclosed to facilitate air conditioning. Their dishes are medium sized and easily shared if you order 3 or more. Their paan is excellent as are the curry dishes. Prices are low and easy on the wallet. I don't believe they serve alcoholic beverages.

This place was recommended to us by friends so we decided to give it a chance. As the restaurant is slightly hidden away from the main streets, it's quiet. We ordered a couple of curries, dhal, salad, yoghurt salad, and some satay dishes. Dhal and breads (roti and naan) tasted quite authentic though the bread was a bit too buttery... I did not taste satay chicken but the curries were disappointing. They tasted as if they were cooked in a slow cooker, and then were warmed up. The spices in them were dull and uninteresting. Yoghurt salad was made with some sweet flavoured stuff which in no way resembled the tangy taste of the expected dish. Overall, very overpriced for the quality of food. Disappointing...
