“Fantastic - just what I needed”

A gorgeous, smart, clean hotel with friendly reception and bar staff who were wonderfully helpful when my airline lost my luggage. The room was great with a huge, beautiful mural on the wall. Breakfast was very tasty and the ice cream sundaes from the bar are to die for! All in all a fab experience - I went back there to top and tail my visit to Chiang Mai.

Booked this place on a special rate with an online site and was looking for budget so was really pleasantly surprised. Don't be put off by the daytime noise of traffic in the lobby, it doesn't intrude upstairs, my room on the first floor was really quiet the moment the door clicked behind me. The bed is super comfortable by Thai standards. It is literally metres to the top end of the night bazaar and an easy walk to Loi Kroh Rd, Tha Phae Gate and the Sunday Walking Street. It's got a lot going for it at a fraction of the cost of some of the name places nearby. Breakfast was included, and fine. I recommend this hotel, especially if you get a good discount on line!

Room Tip: Go for a room toward the back to be on the safe side for quiet .

We stayed at The Small for 3 nights back in June. 2 nights before a jungle trek and 1 night on our return. This worked out well as the hotel were happy to store our big bags whilst we were away on the trek.

I read some negative reviews about the service from the staff but personally found them all to be very pleasant and accommodating, including the lady on the tourist information desk.

The hotel is in a great location, across the road from the impressive night market and just a 5 minute walk to the gate of the old town. Everything is close by.

There seemed to be plenty of option at breakfast, although I can't comment too much as I was feeling unwell at the time and didn't have an appetite! It has a pretty little pool area. Emphasis on the word little... Don't expect to do lengths!

The room itself is fairly basic but nicely decorated. There is no view out the window, but we didn't book the hotel to sit inside and admire the view. They have a mini bar, which includes bug spray! This was a good thing, as my only negative comment is the amount of mosquitos that we had in the room, but can that be helped?!

Would I stay here again? Yes.

Conveniently situated on Ta Pae road. My room was small but had high ceiling , rather basically furnished with fridge, tea and coffee making facilities, hairdryer, safe and small flat screen TV with DVD player. Some rooms don't even have a wardrobe. Floor is polished concrete, painted crimson whilst a garish wall paper mural covers the headboard wall. I have slept in more comfortable beds. There was only one small window in the room with no view. Bathrooms are OK with a decent size shower. Room quiet with no extraneous noise. Breakfasts eminently missable but of a standard compatible with this genre of hotels. You can get a better breakfast on one of the numerous restaurants on Ta Pae road. Overall I had no problems here, staff were OK and I would quite happily stay here again. At just under 900 baht a night including breakfast it was fair value for money

We were only here for 2 nights but a great location, very short walk to the night markets where you can get lots of bargains and lots of bars and restaurants that way too.
The staff also arranged a day trip for us and were always very helpful in recommendations and the sort.
Room was a triple and served its purpose, balcony view was just a tree unfortunately and we did not have time to check out the pool but the breakfast was very good!

Great location in Chiang Mai, great breakfast too, and clean room. The customer service wasn't the best though. My stay here was pleasant, but I was disappointed at the pool - it was dirty and looked nothing like the photos! I'd stay here again if I was on a budget, it's good for what you pay.

We stayed in this hotel after a really long overnight train journey and it was a relief to arrive and we were able to check in early in the morning. It was lovely and quiet which was perfect. Our room was big and spacious, the bathroom was also clean. Breakfast in the morning was great with lots of options and the rooftop view was just beautiful. The location was fantastic and we were just a short walk away from the night market. Defiantly recommend The Small Hotel to anyone who is looking to stay in Chiang Mai.
