“Beautiful unique property, lovely owner, delicious coffee”
Reviewed 17 June 2014

We are a couple in our twenties who stayed here for five nights in June. Tanita House is absolutely beautiful. We stayed in a small teak bungalow that was ornate, private, comfortable, well air-conditioned and very clean. We had an issue with the water in our room one afternoon, which was prompty resolved. Aor and the rest of the staff were gracious, polite, and helpful. Breakfast each morning was quite generous and included scrambled eggs, bacon, fresh fruit, toast, muesli, and yogurt.

There are many restaurants nearby (our favourite - Tiddin 2013 across the street) and an excellent coffee house on-site run by Aor's nephew. The one possible downside to Tanita House is that Charoenrats Road is not very pedestrian friendly and yet you must walk on it to get in to the more central parts of Chiang Mai (unless you take a tuktuk or songthaew). That said, we walked into the old city daily in hot weather and it took us about 30 minutes.

Room Tip: Can't make a mistake. All rooms beautiful.

This place is special. Steeped in history Tanita house deal in recycled and antique Teak products, and their bungalows are made from recycled Teak. It's a peaceful haven tucked away off Charoenrats Road, an interesting road full of history and quirky shops and restaurants on the Ping river. Aor, the owner, is the fourth generation of the family at Tanita house and proudly welcomes you to her home. You feel like her personal guest and nothing is too much trouble. There is good quality tea ( with milk!), coffee and iced water available to help yourself to round the clock, and a good breakfast to look forward to in the mornings. I used it as a place to rest for a day and so didn't use her advice on trips but saw her being very helpful and interested with others. Worth seeking out but book ahead if you can as it's very popular.

We stayed here about 3 years ago and decided to return for 3 nights in June.

The rooms are still as good as I remember them. Teak bungalows in a secluded garden tucked away in the outskirts of town and so peaceful.

It's about a 15 minute stroll to the town gates where the Sunday walking street is.

The rooms are very well maintained and each bungalow has a balcony where you can read your book in the evening or just chill out listening to the frogs and lizards

Aor the owner is lovely and nothing is too much trouble, she can organize all your onward journey or book day trips if you want her to.

The breakfast is also good, scrambled egg and crispy bacon, there's also fruit and yoghurt and toast and a continual supply of bottled water is kept in the fridge to help yourself to.

Thanks Aor for another amazing stay in your beautiful accommodation

Room Tip: We stayed in the bungalow next to the coffee shop but they're probably all as good

Our stay at Tanita House was amazing. When you walk into the gardens the place is simply beautiful- words cannot describe. Beyond that, the Owner Aor is super helpful! When we first arrived our A/C wasn't running great and Aor immediately called a technician to come out and have the A/C serviced. It wasn't long before our room was feeling nice and cool. Breakfast every morning is great they serve scambled eggs and bacon. The location is perfect, right on the river and within walking distance to many excellent restaurants. By far the best place we stayed at in Thailand! Highly Recommend!

I booked directly through hotel owner Aor via email as there was no available rooms according to the comparison website I was on. Anyway it turns out there was availability and Aor offered us a room at a great rate of ฿1400 per night inc breakfast. This place was fantastic, Aor greeted us on arrival and was extremely helpful. We got a great little room, it was clean & had good air con. Complimentary water, teas & coffee are available 24/7 from the breakfast area only a few metres from what ever hut you're in. You also get a free drink voucher for the adjacent coffee shop. Breakfast was Eggs, Bacon & Tomatoes and there was a selection of fresh fruits and yoghurts in the fridge which you just help yourself too. Huts were cleaned daily. Aor also booked us on a fantastic Thai cooking class which you must do (search - Thai Secret Cooking School, San Sai) you won't be disappointed.

If you are comparing this accomodation against hostels then it is amazing, if you are comparing it against hotels, then it is a little basic. It all depends on what you are expecting (bearing in mind that it is super cheap to stay here!). I stayed here with my boyfriend and we both loved it! The bungalows are very beautiful and Aor, the lady who owned the place was very welcoming. There was free wifi and a computer to use in the living room. Aor gave great advice on what to do in the city, too. She offered free bottles of water and breakfasts, and really was lovely, she even offered for her Nephew to drive us to Tiger Kingdom for much cheaper than it would have cost us to get a taxi!

We had a problem with ants in the bathroom coming from a break in the sealant on the shower, we mentioned this to Aor and it was fixed before we got back to our room that day.

Location wise it is about a 10-15 min walk to the old town or a quick cheap tuk tuk ride. It costs about 100 bhat one way.

Overall, the place was clean, central and welcoming. The negatives would be that it is a little basic (no TV!) but I quite liked this as it encouraged us to explore the city more! I would definitely recoment this to anyone staying in Chiang Mai.

Just outside and a 10 minute walk from the old city, this guesthouse is set back off the street in a green quiet location with a number of separate buildings. The accommodations in an authentic but modernized traditional Thai wooden house were outstanding.

The proprietress is so friendly and will help with booking trips and provides candid advice in excellent English!
