Owner description: This is an amazing museum about Chiang Mai's history and culture. It opened in 1999. Their web sit is a bit hi-tech quirky.

“History straight in front of you!”
Reviewed 25 May 2014

The exhibition shows the building of Chiang Mai and Thai culture over a life time! The detailed scenery minatures and the structure of rooms amazes you how Thai people lived and grew into a great Nation.. This site shows off what Thailand has achieved with living life on the land to building an empire. The struggle of the people is evident showing the hard work done by all to build a proud Nation!

“A good starting point to understand the Lanna culture and history”
Reviewed 2 May 2014

The admission fee is 90 Baht for a non-Thai adult and for 180 Baht, you can enter two other sites - the Lanna Folklife Museum and Chiang Mai Historical Centre. It is a fairly good deal for you to have an overview of the culture and history of the Lanna Kingdom. I completed all three sites within 2.5 hours (each of the sites are fairly small). If you only have time for one museum, I would recommend the Arts and Cultural Centre as it has very good exhibits and explanations.

There are also audio commentaries at some exhibits but some of them can be quite long, so be prepared to linger around to wait for the commentary to end. Unfortunately, some of the audio commentaries were not working.

“Interesting enough”
Reviewed 5 April 2014

They have a decent number of artefacts from the history of Chiang Mai, though not a heck of a lot of information. It's air conditioned, and takes a couple of hours to get around.

“Best Souvenir Shop in Chiang Mai”
Reviewed 19 December 2013

This relatively new shop has a lovely selection of handcrafts actually made in Northern Thailand, not imported from Chinese factories. Worth a visit. Located on the 2nd floor above the Cafe, you can visit without seeing the exhibits. Ask at the front desk.
