“Fun & friendly place for gay men to stay in Chiang Mai”
Reviewed 6 January 2012

My partner & I stayed 4 nights & really liked it. We changed rooms after 2 nights into a beautiful private large room overlooking the river with our own terrace on river bank. Large 4 poster bed was comfortable. Staff friendly & helpful & breakfast is freshly cooked & included in the very reasonable room rate. Beautiful garden setting & pool. The sauna area is very clean & while not busy we still made friends.

When my husband and I booked four nights at this hotel, we didn't realize that it was "boys only." It didn't make mention of it on their website that we noticed, and they didn't mention it in their confirmation email. But when I stepped out of the cab, a female, they immediately said to the cab driver, "are you sure you're at the right hotel?" yes of course were sure. "well we are boys only. No women allowed." so after traveling for 27 hours, and waiting for 30 minutes at the airport for a taxi, we got back into the cab, and found accommodation elsewhere. Stressful, until our cab driver took us somewhere he knew. (for which I'm sure he got a cut of something). Anyways, this place is great, maybe, if you're a gay dude.

We sincerely apologize for the confusion in your booking. Yes, we are a men's only accomodation. We have clearly marked that on our website and booking agency websites as well.

Earlier in the year I visited Club One Seven Phuket and liked it very much so decided to visit the Chiang Mai sister property. The staff here very very friendly and helpful and attentive. I had a minor issue with my room and this was promptly dealt with by the staff. I had one of the deluxe rooms which looked out over the Ping River which was very pleasant and there was a verandah between my room and the river which was very pleasant to sit out in. The room was of a very good standard and was well maintained. The property is located quite some distance from the old town- I quite enjoyed the walk into town on many occasions but while tuk-tuks never seemed to be located outside the property I usually just walked down to the next hotel and always got one when I wanted it. I will return here for another visit in the near future.

Room Tip: The rooms are on two levels and I picked a deluxe room on the upper level

Like many places around Thailand you are greeted by a smile, but here it's just a taste of what's to come, located right on the banks of the river, just far enough out of central Chiang mai to still be close to all the highlights but quiet enough to be peaceful and quiet at night, something rare in Thailand.
Staff super friendly, will do anything within their capability to please you willingly, Premises are clean and well maintained, any difficulties are pointed out to you on arrival, 1 week previous to our arrival they were flooded, the sauna was not operating, no problem at all. Take a swim in the pool or just read a book, so tranquil. Delightful setting. Standard rooms in the old house are perhaps a little smallish but oh so quaint and romantic, would go the deluxe room next time. You won't be disappointed, Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Choose a room in the old teak house, so quaint and romantic if you feel that way

I went there for the Loi Kra Tong Festival. They now how to do festival in Chiang Mai.
What a welcome I received when I landed at Chiang Mai I was greeted by Tang the Owner and I felt I was in for something special and I was not disappointed. C17 has only been open a short time the room I had for 6 days was great it had a balcony onto the river which was nice to sit and relaxs and the 4 posted bed made me feel like king. The grounds are so tropical and well kept made you feel your 100 miles away and you can total relax the charm and beauty of the rustic guesthouse.
The spa and pool was a lot of fun and the staff made you feel part of the family.
As a solo traveller Tang and the staff what I observe made each guest feel part of a larger family.
I know nothing was a problem when ask they where very helpful.
C17 is a little bit out of town but transport you can easily catch just outside the door it all part of the fun .
I can not wait to get back there.
Take care

Room Tip: Go for the Deluxe rooms

C17 has the abiliaty to make each guest feel special. That each of us guests is the only guest.
This is not done in a token "have a nice day" way but as one friend would treat another.
The hotel staff are well trained and well mannered. The breakfast menue is very western in style however local dishes have been made for guests for breakfast if requested.
Everything at C17 functions effortlessly.
C17 states its a home away from home. I would state is more like visiting your overseas family.

Room Tip: go for the dearer rooms .....remember this place is also 150 years old

Tang and the boys were just amazing. Their service, the hotel ambience, the rustic rooms, the riverview from the cafe, the fun-filled saunas, great central location and not to mention the good food all make club one seven a must!
