“Darling place in great location”
Reviewed 4 October 2011

We found the place quite easily as it is tucked down a side street. The place is small and quaint, beautifully decorated with cool decor that made this spot a gem. I could see the sweat and tears that made this place great as the owner was always working on the grounds. The rooms were on the tad small side, although honestly perfect for what we needed as we were out and about most of the time. The lighting would have been the only downside as it was hard to see yourself in the bathroom mirror, but it wasn't a problem at all. The owner was readily available, spoke good English, and offered free wifi with a strong connection. Also, he allowed us to use his phone to dial a business we were trying to visit, which we really appreciated. There was a noisy dog next door, but not Saithong Guest Houses problem and it didn't bark at night or early morning. I would highly recommend this for the price, you can't beat it. The experience was awesome with the treehouse type feel for the main area.

We went in Chiang Mai on March of 2011 and we were absolutely happy with our stay. The owner is a very helpful person.
The guest house is very clean and stays in a perfect location, just in the middle of the old city, you can do everything walking !!
All the rooms are nice and was made with a lovely decoration !
Enjoy your stay !!

It is a cute little place, and yes the rooms are very small. I paid 600 baht for one night and it was a fair price with cable tv and good ac and good plumbing. But there was quite a bit of mold on everything on the bed. It wasn't totally disgusting, but still unpleasant. The room is not well ventilated so I don't know if it was because they weren't dried properly or if it was because the room gets so damp. Either way if you are a neat freak, it would bother you. Even though the place is very stylish and the communal areas are excellent, I only stayed here for one night because the doors have a weak pad lock from the outside and my inside lock was broken, so I could never keep my door closed completely. And they don't really reach all the way to the floor so I was constantly fighting the bugs & geckos are would make it into the room. If these couple of things weren't an issue, it would have been a good place, even though the rooms are very small, it is fine for one person. The owner is super nice though, could be that I just got a bad room.

Room Tip: Check the sheets before signing in.

As everybody said here Saithong is a very stylish little hotel conveniently located at the end of a quiet soi in the the middle of the old city. Nevertheless there is a serious problem with the rooms on the ground floor (they have 5 on the ground floor and 5 on the first floor) as they really "smell" a strong smell of moist and are very dark too, so If u choose this hotel go for the first floor rooms which are great, avoid the ground floor rooms. Another problem that was annoying for me is that the internet would work sometimes, would not work another times, also if U have a problem there is mostly nobody there to fix it coz the owner is always outside. There are his very friendly old parents but they can't speak a word of english. They offfer no breakfast or food, just a self service with water tea and instant coffee and some cheap salt cakes and also a fridge with two choices of beers.
But if U catch a room in the first floor, if u don't care about internet and if U have your breakfast outside in one of the countless nice places around within a reach of 5 mn walking distance. Its a great place. The location is unbeatable anyway.

Loved this little guest house at a great price! Thai style house with towels folded to look like an elephant when you first arrive! Gorgeous authentic Thai style rooms, although a little dark and kinda small with the stained glass windows and dark wood everywhere. Nice and clean. Really friendly staff (family owned and run), and the lovely gentleman who owns the guesthouse dropped us to the airport for a very reasonable price. Awesome aircon, fresh towels everyday, free wifi. The rooms are not serviced, but fresh towels do the trick. Really close (2min walk) to the Tha Pae gate where there are plenty of cafes, restaurants and Starbucks & McDonalds if you're that way inclined. About 15min walk to the night market, or 50B tuk-tuk back (that's the Westerner's price I believe). 2 beautiful temples right next door/across the road. This place has real character! Only issue may be the taxi finding it (down a one way driveway type thing) - but we booked with agoda online and the voucher included the address in Thai which was very helpful. I would definitely recommend!

Hotel was very cosy, not too big, and nicely and loungy decorated in a modern Thai-way. Very clean! Owner was very helpful and arranged everything we asked for. He even found my husbands lost wallet including 10.000 THB!!! We were very happy :-)

The guest house is located in a very quiet street, 2mn walking from Tha Phae Gate. Although the rooms are a bit dark, they are clean and equiped with AC (nice when the outiside temperature comes close to 40°c ...). The manager is very friendly (and speaks English quite well).
