“Nice, with friendly staff”
Reviewed 18 June 2013

Staff is friendly and has a range of activities on offer. The rooms are decent, though not all as nice. The huts are a bit grotty, the downstairs rooms a bit dark, but the upstairs room with the balcony on two sides is airy and light. Though still only comes with a fan.

I come every year, because of the nicest relaxed staff. The nice garden brings the perfect atmosphere to stay long term. Take a red car to sompet market, walk up the beautiful lane to Jaidii and you will have a good time.

I had a nice stay here. The location was very convenient as I enjoyed the fresh produce market and Gac fruit juice available on the same road. There were also several restaurants near by serving quality food for local prices. The room itself was spacious, with a big bed, nice bathroom and the water got fairly warm. For the price I paid honestly I felt like the AC should have worked. There were a few hot days where I had to get completely naked and aim the fan right at me to stay comfortable. I got the private room because I enjoy having my own space and being able to choose whether or not to socialize with anyone. Here you are met by the management every time you walk out so it feels wrong not to stop and chat for a min everytime you come or go (lol, probably not an issue for most. they are nice people.). You are within walking distance of the Night Bazaar and weekend Walking St festivals. Plenty of cabs and tuk tuks buzzing around eager to be of service. Enjoy!

pros: good location, free drinking water, cheap room

cons: We had room no. 1 on the ground floor and the smell in the room was just awful. The drain in the bathroom smelled like sewage. What made it even worse: The door to the bathroom couldnt be closed so you had the smell in the whole room... yummy.
Also the room was unbearably hot. I dont know why, but in the lobby it was ok and as soon as you got into the room it felt like a sauna. Since the room only has a fan you couldnt do much against that.
We stayed for three nights and they didnt even empty the (very small) trashcan in the bathroom once.

If youre on a tight budget and dont care about smell or hyghiene you could take the chance. otherwise i would advise you to look elsewhere since you can find better accomodations for about the same price in chiang mai.

Room Tip: If you stay there, dont stay at room number 1 on the ground floor.

Arrived and booked 1 night after a long and weary trip. The toliets worked but smelled awful and the staff lacked enthusiasm, they did not tell us we had to leave in the morning as they were booked up so you can imagine our surprise when we had to pack up and find somewhere else to stay in a peak season chiang mai. Will not be staying again

As far as hostels go its standard, laid back and nothing is lacking. However they offer all kinds of booking services for the best prices in Chiang Mai. We booked a trek through them and out of the 12 people on it we paid the least by ~$10. Similar story for bus tickets back to Bangkok. The people who run it are very nice and several times I came in to the lobby and found them doing yoga.

The owners left the place to their French friend and he was such a nice guy. He was living there with his girlfriend and was always available for help. The place had free wifi, coffee, tea, water and advice on all kinds of activities.

The bamboo huts we stayed in were superbasic, i.e. matress on the floor including mozzie net, and shared bathrooms but due to the tranquility of the place we end up staying several days.

Place was clean, the bed daily made, bathrooms cleaned regularly, etc. Location was perfect as well, close to the daily market.

Make sure you visit Chiang Mai during weekends, as it is the best food market we have sampled in Thailand. They close off the main street and have you taste everything you can imagine. Sunday starting around 5-6pm

Jaidii Guesthouse is a home-style guesthouse in the heart of Chiang Mai's old city. We are known locally for being the big house with the green garden and bamboo huts just past Somphet Market. We are close to Moonmuang Road - a main road of Chiang Mai City. We are just 1 minute's walk from Somphet Food Market, and 5 minutes from the Sunday Market (handicrafts and more food). It's really easy to get public transport from Jaidii, and the closest restaurants and bars are only a couple of minutes walking distance. Our rooms: *Double with bathroom *Double with balcony (shared bathroom) *Dormitory (6 beds, shared bathroom) *Bamboo huts - double (shared bathroom). What we offer: *Free tea, coffee and water*Honesty policy on cheap drinks *Garden with chairs and tables for relaxing and socializing*Advice and bookings for tours, courses etc. ) Jai Dii means 'good heart' or 'kind heart'. We aim to make our guests' stay here feel as relaxing and homey as possible. We love our garden, especially as it is so hard to find green spaces in the city! Our guests comment that it's great to stay in a place that is so close to facilities, yet quiet at night (we are on a small soi away from the main road). ... more   less
