“Fantastic Stay!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 January 2012

The hotel is really one of its kind in Chiang Mai. First arrived at airport, was welcomed by friendly hotel staff, which transfer us to the hotel. The location which is not in the town centre makes it really quiet and serene facing the Ping River, however if you were travel to town it is only a 5-10 minutes journey away. The Moroccan style hotel really amazed us not only with the design and comfort but is the people that really makes our stay memorable. Owners of the hotel has been really kind, welcomed us, and even guide and bring us around the town. In the hotel, we could see the details of efforts which the owners has put in. Every pieces and every corner, they have search for the best suiting furniture and accessories all the way from Middle Eastern countries. The food at the restaurant also served some authentic middle eastern food, and fusion of western food as well. Not to mention, what's so unforgettable, is the owner's homemade recipe of Beef Dish. It is simply "Beefilicious". Overall my first trip to Chiang Mai is really AMAZING, with the great hospitality provided by the Sheik Istana owners, staff and the local community. Definitely a must try hotel if you were to travel to Chiang Mai.

We spent 3 nights in Sheik Istana and I can only say this: excellent! The room was perfectly clean, spacious, the quality of the bed is perfect, the view... everything. The staff was very helpful and friendly, and the food was great. Really, our stay was perfect! I totally recommand this hotel, which more than this, is particularly charming

Room Tip: Ask for a room with the river view

Sheik Istana Hotel opened a few months ago. Expect therefore clean, well-kept living space and room amenities are in good working order (I hope it will stay that way for a long time and not fall into disrepair like other hotels I stayed). The room layout is spacious and the balcony is a great place to simply laze around, read a book or browse the Internet. The room we had was the nearest to the WiFi modem, giving us uninterrupted and rapid Internet access. All balconies face the river Mae Ping, across of which lies a lonely chedi called Wat Lium. It is illuminated at night, creating a sense of serenity and romance to the night view. We were lucky to have the full moon out during our stay: river, chedi trees and full moon, all make for an unforgettable experience.

The facilities are clean, well-maintained and cater truly for those who simply want to relax and rejuvenate, and not to visit the tourist sites or shop in the city centre.

The view of Doi Inthanon, Thailand's highest mountain, is breath-taking from dusk to dawn.

The service staff is friendly, attentive and responsive. But this could be because there were not many occupied rooms during our stay, albeit it was the peak holiday season in Thailand.

The lunch menu was very good and the North African dishes comprising tajines and couscous are replicated authentically (I lived in the south of France for more than 7 years!). Prices are slightly on the high side.

The hotel is located just 5 minutes walk away from a wonderful and new Thai restaurant called Rak Tha Nam that serves excellent Lanna-Thai cuisine, in a beautiful ambience and at affordable prices. Out of the 5-night stay, we visited the restaurant 3 times for dinner.

Our main grouses are:
1. Buffet breakfast menu shoud vary from day to day, since the hotel is truly way out of any tourist spots;
2. The hotel is remotely located from the city centre and any other eateries. Due to its remoteness, taxis are hard to come by. The hotel can book one for the guest, but be prepared to pay a high price: US$4.50 just to get into the city centre which is 10 minutes away by taxi.
3. The bed is too soft and does not mold well to the body.

Room Tip: Rooms on the third floors are quieter. Rooms with ending with the digits "02", e.g. 302...

This is one of the best hotels I have stayed worldwide. The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. The location is great if you have your own vehicle. It is situated by the River Ping over looking pagodas and ruins of a historical city. The sunrise and sunset is most amazing. The interior is superb, making you feel like you are in a Middle East country (except the air-conditioners that dont seem to match with the building). Tyhe hotel restaurant is great for breakfast and dinner (the portion is rather big). The afternoon drink there is relaxing. It is aperfect hideaway indeed.

Room Tip: Rooms on higher floors
