We stayed at the 137 Pillar House over New Year 2013 and had a great time staying there. All in all this place is surely one of the best or even the best place to stay in Chiang Mai, excellent service and stunning rooms... and I mean stunning! .One of the most beautiful rooms I stayed in Thailand.. and I would give them a sixth star if I could.

I would wish more variety at the breakfast menu, but this wont influence my five star rating, but even at this high standard there is room for improvement.

The location is very quite and close the the center and if you can afford it, it is definitively
a gorgeous place to relax in northern Thailand. Highly recommended.

We just picked this hotel as it seemed interesting and was 5star. We were pleasantly surprised! If you like small quiet hotels...this was like an oasis in the middle of Chiang Mai. It is so lovely ...all the old plantation style decor and architecture is well kept up with. The room was absolutely gorgeous and spacious...with an old fashioned tub as well as an indoor and outdoor shower..which we really enjoyed. The greenery within the hotel grounds was very peaceful and relaxing so much that I did not want to leave it to go anywhere. The staff was very attentive and friendly. Special note to the onsite food and beverage manager...he went out of his way to make sure we were okay as my husband is vegetarian. Loved the place and will go back again.

This hotel opened in March of 2012. It is the original Borneo trading company site with the owner's home. The home was beautifully restored and additional two story villas added. The villas are wonderful with indoor and outdoor showers, large soaking tub, a large outdoor veranda and very comfortable beds. The service is excellent and very responsive. The breakfasts are very nice and the tasting menu dinners exquisite. The pool is a lap pool and at times it seems like it is your personal pool. Although only opened 11 months the grounds are lush and the staff well trained.

Room Tip: The second floor rooms offer more privacy on the veranda

This beautiful hotel is located just outside the main city center behind walls that makes it a quiet and secluded retreat.
Everything about this place is perfect - Glen and Pooh at the reception were kind and helpful - knew us by name very quickly. They knew everything about the city and were attentive to our needs.
The garden in the hotel is lovely and the pool is not big but long (25 meters or so) so you can do laps if you have the energy after walking around all day...
Rooms are beautifully designed in a modern colonial style with everything you expect. Minibar is free and every room has a private balcony where you can relax.

We stayed during Valentines and had a great dinner at the restaurant - breakfast selection is good and the selection at the buffet of very high quality. You can order from the menu if you have special requests.

Would come again anytime!

Room Tip: We stayed in a normal room on the ground floor which was perfect and easy to access. For a better ba...

137 Pillars House is an absolute gem of a hotel, probably the best I've stayed in in Thailand, or anywhere else for that matter. My wife, myself and our 5 year old son visited for 2 nights in mid-January (cool / dry season) and we could easily have stayed for much longer.

Situated in an ideal location - tucked away in some quiet back-lanes but only 10 minutes walk to the river front, 15 minutes to the night market - lies this gorgeous 5 star boutique hotel. The immediate area has a lot of small antique and handicraft shops, but not filled with touristy tat like many of the stalls in the nearby night-market, these small shops make for a pleasant browse on your way to the river-front.

The hotel grounds are beautiful, with traditional Thai style buildings which somehow seem modern yet rustic at the same time. Trees and other plants are growing all over the place and the huge, striking green wall of foliage which is actually comprised of a creeping-ivy-like plant looms over the swimming pool and is an intriguing feature of the hotel, the likes of which I've never seen before. It's kept in amazingly good condition, and with no leaves falling in the pool as you might fear there could be.

The pool itself is fine, if unremarkable, but it's the setting that makes it special.

The restaurant is spread over many locations, so you can dine in the courtyard surrounded by Thai houses (as we did), in the colonial library style lounge, out on the grass near the pool or on the terrace in your room. We had one Thai evening meal there which was sublime, real top quality, high-end Thai food: not cheap, but I've eaten lesser food for much higher prices than this before. For me it was definitely worth a bit of a splurge for an evening, the roasted duck red curry and a fried fish dish were particular favourites, and we enjoyed some excellent cocktails as an aperitif.

Breakfast was also very good, although if I'm going to be picky it was perhaps not quite to the same 5 star level as the rest of the hotel. Still a very enjoyable start to the day though, especially considering the surroundings.

The rooms were amazing, we were in a Rajah Brookes Suite, and we loved the large balcony / terrace, the choice of two showers (one outdoor) plus a luxurious bath, unlimited fresh coffee, free beers in the minibar and the personal on-call butler. The bed was huge and very comfortable ensuring a great night's sleep.

The staff were charming, helpful and very knowledgeable about Chiang Mai and things to do. They were always on hand to be helpful, but never seemed over-bearing or fussy, and were a real asset to making our stay even more enjoyable.

Overall, we loved 137 Pillars and wouldn't hesitate to go back again.

Open a year ago, this new boutique hotel is gorgeous and discreet in a back street, 10 minutes walk to main riverfront restaurants and bars like Deck 1, Good View, Riverside, a cute Vieng Joom On Teahouse and Rarinjinda spa.

The room is luxurious with large bathroom, indoor outdoor shower, and terrace open to a greenery compound with teak wood house served as lounge and restaurant. A butler is provided.

Only complaint is the Chinese family tourists that stayed here were loud, shouting to each that disrupted the serene surrounding of the classy resort and make it as if is their backyard.

We had an amazing stay with 137 Pillars House. Would definitely return any time!!!
The setting is amazing, within the city, but very secluded through its unique charm. Rooms are very spatious, we had our own veranda and an outside tab and shower.
Beautiful restaurant, a small reading room with local and international books also provided.
Great house and pool design.
Breakfast was ok, not very diverse though. Spa is a must try.
A fantastic experience for both of us.
