My husband and I spent eight nights at 137 Pillars House in Chiang Mai in mid-February 2013. We could not have been happier with the East Borneo Suite we booked. We love light, and this spacious room, hallway, dressing room and bathroom had windows on three sides, plus an enormous balcony, and much to our delight, both an indoor and outdoor shower. The bed was so comfortable that we were wondering how we could find the manufacturer of the mattress! In the mornings we would sit on the patio and listen to the chorus of birds singing; in the evenings we watched the night creatures fly by. The hotel is a 10-minute ride to central Chiang Mai but just off the beaten track.....perfect combination of city access and quiet-resort solitude. There are so many things to do in Chiang Mai or on its outskirts - elepant bathing and riding (recommend Patara), tiger petting, trekking the beautiful mountains, visiting the lacquer, wood, silk and jade workshops, and spending time in several of the 300+ wats (temples) in the city, as well as the night bazaar and Sunday-night market. The staff at 137 Pillars were very helpful and eager to please though we relied on Trip Advisor to find the best adventures. This was one of our best travel experiences ever, and the charm of 137 Pillars was a key ingredient.More
