Singha Montra Lanna Boutique Style
Reviewed 2 December 2013

I wouldn't recommend the Singha Montra to anyone. Our taxi can driver informed us on the way in the the Singha was a 5 star hotel. More like a 2 star wearing a 5 star disguise.

The rooms were amazingly beautiful, but the hotel is poorly constructed (with paper thin walls) and in a horrible location.

We could hear everything inside
and outside of the hotel from
inside our room at all times. At one point I seriously thought someone had walked into our room, it took me a moment to realize I was overhearing a conversation from the room beside us. My wife and I got no sleep at all during our stay at Singha, the hotel is located in a residential neighborhood and the locals are early early risers.

The hotel isn't located close to anything in Chiang Mai. The only way into town was to arrange a tuc tuc thru the hotel (twice they forgot to call and we were left waiting in the lobby), and most of the drivers didn't know where it was located to bring us back home.

Beautiful, but not worth staying at.

Cons:
1. We arrived and the bed was not made and there was dirty water in the jacuzzi and was told this would be changed and fixed. However it wasn't until we had to call them twice to rectify the situation.
2.choisekeeping staff were particularly rude, despite these issues they didn't not apologise and instead gave us as guests attitude! What gall seeing as she was not doing her job and to criticise the guests. Was not happy about the way we were treated.
3. English is extremely limited and it is difficult overall to communicate with the staff. The gentleman at the reception has good English, but the rest of the staff will leave you more confused than anything
4. Distance. Close to the airport. Not to anything else. Expect difficulty getting in and out of the city
5. Tours. We were thrusted phamphlets as soon we sat down in reception. In another language we could not understand mind you.
6. Facilities are limited. Meals are expensive and poor for the price. Gym consists of 3 treadmills. Pool is a 25m lap pool.
7. Overall tries to give a resort feel and the rooms are quite nice by themselves. Nice touch to include a jacuzzi. Unfortunately unless this alone can satisfy you, I'd suggest a stay elsewhere.

We stayed in a Family Suite at the Singha Montra for a week in early November and were generally impressed with the hotel. We really loved the decor throughout the hotel, and the outside area and pool were beautiful too. Our suite was enormous and there were nice touches from room service each day including fresh flowers on our beds and in the bathroom, my only gripe would be that I could have done with some more hangers or drawers for clothes. The staff were all very friendly and helpful, particularly Guy, the concierge who was a great help in helping us organise trips, from a tour of Doi Inthanon to a morning's fishing. The hotel is slightly outside the centre of Chiang Mai, but tuk tuks are readily available and only about 200 baht each way so we didn't find this to be an issue at all. Breakfast was fairly simple but plentiful and the coffee was great, on a day when we were leaving for a trip before breakfast was served the hotel staff kindly organised us a yummy boxed breakfast to eat on the way. The one thing that let the hotel down slightly was the food - we travelled with young kids and so it was convenient on a couple of occasions to eat dinner in the hotel restaurant and whilst the food was okay it wasn't on a par with the "look" and service of the rest of Singha Montra, this wouldn't discourage me from a repeat stay at the hotel however as there are plenty of fab restaurants nearby.

We stayed at the Singha Montra overnight on our way from Chiang Rai to Bangkok as it very convenient for the airport. Despite this we did not hear any aircraft noise at all during our stay. We were very impressed with the beautiful interior and exterior of this hotel and the brilliant attitude and courtesy of the staff who were so helpful in every way. We had a late evening meal on arrival which was really good and very reasonable at about 180 baht. Breakfast was good without being outstanding. We had a suite which was tremendous, little things like the shower head not staying in position, the tap base being wobbly and some of the light bulbs not working sometimes did not deter us from our enjoyment of this hotel. It is out of the centre of the city so we had a good nights sleep and could taxi or tuk tuk in within 5 minutes..we would happily have stayed longer as it is the perfect base for exploring. The suite had every amenity we could possibly want and would recommend this hotel especially for families because of its informal atmosphere.

Room Tip: We had the llana suite which was huge and beautifully presented

We had a lovely stay here for 3 nights while travelling around Thailand. It was very good value as we had a penthouse suite, Jacuzzi in our room and the staff were very helpful. Especially in calling tuctucs and organising trips.

We stayed at the Singha Montra for 4 nights. Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous traditional Thai building? The hotel is dark, because of all the dark wood walls but just stunningly gorgeous. Our room was beautiful and clean, we enjoyed the fresh flowers every day and the little treats left for us. The mattress was rather hard and uncomfortable, but that was pretty much the norm at other hotels in Thailand too. Wifi service was not that reliable, however the staff addressed the issue promptly. I wished for a larger variety of tropical fruits at the breakfast buffet, but that's just me. Coffee is tasty too.

We recently spent 5 days at the Singha Montra and have so much praise for the kindness and helpfulness of the staff, along with the beautiful presentation of the hotel including the well sized constantly clean rooms.

During our stay, the staff were always happy to honor any request including booking various activities and allowing us to hire scooters. The breakfast buffet was more than acceptable and featured local tastes along with western style dishes including a chef to cook eggs and bacon any way they were requested. We also dined several times at the restaurant for Lunch and Diner and found the menu to be of great range and quality, unable to fault any dish we were given.

The general atmosphere of the hotel was wonderful and relaxing, and staff were always smiling.

It really made for a perfect stay and we hopefully look forward to going back.
