“New hotel in great position”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 December 2012

The Chompor Lanna was built last year and the rooms are new and in great condition. The hotel is situated in a quiet soi next to Wat Duang Dee, close to three king’s monument and behind Tamarind Village, so a convenient location for exploring central Chiang Mai.
The hotel has ample parking and the large site has three small rice paddies, some tradional buildings and a large pond and waterfall. The landscaping is nice and there is a lot of space.
The rooms are in two blocks, one of five regular rooms by the reception and restaurant and five superior “villas” by the pool and rice paddies. All the rooms are upstairs.
I stayed in a villa and the room was very nice lanna style, ample space and fridge, kettle, flat screen tv with BBC/NBC etc. I had a twin first and then a double which was nicer. Linens good and bed comfortable. the double had a mosquito net which the twin didn't. Air con was quiet and worked well. There was a lack of drawers and hanging space however.
As others have said, the bathrooms are a let down. Tiny and not well fitted out, with some “lanna” features like an earthenware jar in the shower that just gets in the way. The sink is too rustic and there is nowhere to hang towels or put toiletries. Interestingly the twins bathroom was smaller than the doubles. It's a real shame about this and just some simple hooks, a shelf and new sink would make an enormous difference, also loose the jar. Sink only has cold water.
All The water around the hotel does mean there are Mosquitos and there were a lot in the rooms. I think the hotel should provide some room spray to combat this (I bought my own).
The staff are lovely and very helpful so top marks for that and the breakfast was good. I didn't eat at the restaurant but the menu looked good and prices reasonable.
I liked the hotel a lot with those few caveats and would happily stay again as it offers good value in a great position, but don't expect luxury bathrooms.

I just wanted to thank the staff at Chompor Lanna for a wonderful stay. They were so helpful throughout our entire stay. They assisted us with directions, helped us book local tours, called us taxis, and were flexible with check-out times when we had a late flight out. The staff there are so friendly, speak English well, and were always pleasant and delivered service with a smile.

The hotel is in a great location of Chiang Mai. We loved the interior of the room (we stayed in the Deluxe Garden View room) with the dark wood details. Very unique. The restaurant is also very tasty and at a reasonable price. Nice ambience with the open patio and hanging lanterns.

Thanks again! Great hotel and great value!

We stayed here for two night with perfect deal. Totally worth the money! We got two room in Villa overlooking the small rice field (yes small rice field in middle of city)
the place is just next to the sunday walking street so if you have car, u need to be back in the hotel by 5.00 pm since the close will be close.
the service and food are awesome.

However, there are things that we believe the hotel can impove.
1) the bathroom, sooooo small (we not sure about other room type) and missing some simple stuff like hanger
2) no telephone in the room (the only way you can contact reception is walk there or call them from mobile)

I dont recommend this place to family with small children since the deluxe and villa room are upstair. I think it perfect for couple who want quiet hotel in perfect location.

In middle of old city but set in surprisingly large garden complete with rice padi and pond. Charming lanna style accommodation. Staff very helpful and pleasant. Nice breakfast. Only one small criticism, could do with better storage / hanging space for clothes but this is not a reason not to come. Great hotel and good value.

We found this lovely hotel as we were wondering around looking for somewhere to eat. We spotted the sign post out on the main road and so pleased we went!!!!!
The staff made myself, my husband and three children very very welcome. They accommodated my very fussy 13 year old vegetarian and made us a feast, the food was delicious!
We thoroughly recommend this restaurant! The setting was also very lovely!

We booked a Superior room there for 2 nights via internet, and when we got there we were upgraded to a deluxe room facing the garden and the restaurant. The room was beautiful, the bathroom was very nice. Breakfast at the restaurant is complimentary, and tasted really good too. They serve American breakfast (toast, bacon, and eggs) and Thai breakfast (chicken or pork rice soup/porridge) along with some fruits, orange juice and coffee/tea. The restaurant serves very tasty food, and has a great ambience so you can just sit and relax, have a few drinks after traveling around Chiang Mai.
When we came back to Chiang Mai the next week, we got our Superior room, which was a lot smaller than the deluxe. The room was also nice, a traditional style room. However, the bathroom doesn't have exhaustion and it was also a bit smelly there (like that of damp wooden furniture, that is). Just make sure you leave the little window in the bathroom open when you're not using it, so there will be enough air circulation in there to get rid of the smell. Or if you're staying for a few days in this room, it might be better to go to the nearby 7 Eleven and buy a cheap air freshener or odor eliminator products ;-)
But the greatest thing about this hotel is the service. It's really a five-star hotel service, regardless of what type of room you're staying in. The staff are very friendly and helpful, and always try everything they possibly can to make our stay comfortable.
This charming hotel has a great location near the Three Kings Monument in the Old City. There are some beautiful temples within walking distance, and you can find lots of cute little shops nearby. Transportation is quite easy too, just stop one of the red cars and tell the driver where you're going to, and he'll take you there for 20 Baht per person (more if it's far, we spent 40 Baht each to get to the bust terminal). If you wish for a more traditional feel, try and ride the Tuk-tuk. A lot more expensive than the red taxis, but hey, you're in Thailand and you have got to try it, at least once :-) Most Tuk-tuk drivers speak English and very friendly.

Tips: book a visit to Thai Cultural Center with this hotel. It's 600 Baht per person, and so worth it. There will be a van to pick you up at the hotel around 6.45pm (they pick up guests from other hotels too along the way), and once you get to the place you will have a great Thai dinner (for those who don't eat spicy food or pork, notify the person who greets you at the entrance) and enjoy fantastic Thai dances. Btw, beverages are not included in the entrance fee. After dinner, they will lead you to a place to see tribal dances. Some HMong people sell trinkets along the way from the restaurant to the tribal dance show.
